IOWA — Governor Kim Reynolds says the state’s Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation for the COVID-19 pandemic will end later this month and the state will shut down its two data reporting websites.

Reynolds signed what she says will be the final extension of the proclamation she first enacted on March 17th, 2020. Governor Reynolds used the proclamation over the last two years to enact mask mandates and close down businesses and schools – as well as to later repeal those decisions. The current proclamation contains just 16 provisions that “focus primarily on lingering workforce issues”, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

Along with the expiration of the proclamation, the governor’s office will also shut down the coronavirus.iowa.gov and vaccinateiowa.gov websites on February 16th – the day the proclamation ends. Those websites are currently updated three times per week with data on COVID-19 cases, deaths and outbreaks at long term care facilities. That information will now be provided just once per week on the Iowa Department of Public Health website.

Kelly Garcia, the Director of IDPH, says that the reporting will bring the state’s focus on COVID-19 in line with other respiratory illnesses. Governor Reynolds says Iowans need to accept COVID-19 just as we do “the flu and other infectious illnesses.” In the last two flu seasons there have been 19 influenza deaths in the state of Iowa. 8,657 Iowans have died from COVID-19 in the last two years.

In the province where I live in the middle of this big, cold country, for the last 2 years we are told by the media that 3 people or 5 people or whatever have died from Covid19. I say, BIG DEAL. We are a province of 1.38 million frozen people. So what is the BIG DEAL of 3 or 5 dying of Covid19. I sure would like to know how many, on that same day, died of cancer, heart attacks, stroke, etc. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is a lot more than the 3 or 5 from Covid19. But here I am again. Politically incorrect and once again, "Blowing Against The Wind."

The diff, though, is there's not much a person can do to prevent cancer, heart attacks, stroke, etc.

And: if a person has cancer, a heart attack, stroke, etc., he or she cannot pass it on to other people.

All of those conditions are close to 100 percent preventable by focusing on one's personal health. :)
People don't die from refusing to choke themselves or from refusing to shoot poisons in their bodies.
You can continue doing those unhealthy things and getting sick from them if you wish, but that's you and not me.

Not all of those are preventable, no matter how healthy a lifestyle is, genetics can be a major factor, also cancer can be caused by environmental conditions.

I think a lot of people are tired of tuning into the news, and seeing the same warnings/numbers over and over. By now, everyone should be aware of the dangers posed by this virus, so it shouldn't be necessary to keep repeating the obvious. Yes, we should receive regular "brief summaries" and be warned of any new variants, but the endless rhetoric just seems to harden some peoples attitudes.

Without a complete autopsy, no one knows how many have really died from Covid, or if Covid just exasperated their pre-existing conditions. The current "official" number of deaths is over 900K, in the U.S., but the CDC and DHS have both recently released statements that this number could be as high/low as 30% of the actual number....meaning that Covid deaths could be somewhere between 600K, and 1.2M....No one really knows, for sure.

Mandates and lockdowns, etc., seem to have done little to lessen the spread. Sensible avoidance of crowds, wearing a mask when out in public, and OMG...Getting Vaccinated....appears to be the only ways we will get out of this mess.
