Is Emergent Care scary?

I am always concerned I'll end up with something worse than what I went there to get treated. All those sick people leaving their germs on fomites and in the air. ☠

What's a "fomite"?

Both of the major hospital systems here have opened free-standing emergency rooms around the area. These aren't "walk-in clinics"; they are actual emergency rooms with all the capabilities of the ER's located at the hospitals. The wait is a lot less than the hospital-based ER's and it takes a load off them.

When they first opened, people would show up with ear infections, etc., and instead of getting a $100 charge that they'd get at a walk-in clinic, they'd get a $1,000 charge because it was an ER. OUCH!

Same here, and that's why I haven't been there even though I needed treatment.

The disadvantage is that if you need advanced care, they’ll call an ambulance to take you to a real hospital, another bill for that. If it’s relatively minor, I’d go to an Urgent. And if I think I’m having a heart attack or stroke I’d go to a hospital er and cut out the middle man. Here they’ve started up a couple of those emergents, but I’m skeptical because they don’t even have enough staffing for their regular programs

People around here rave about the care they get at the Emergent care facility. I've been there several times and I am not thrilled with the treatment I receive. Once they refused to see me because I didn't have a doctor's order. The doctor had assured me he would FAX it to them. After I got back home the facility called and said they did have it, it had just been "misplaced". Had to make another 25 mile round rip. Other times I've been examined only to be told to "follow up with my PCP". They really didn't do anything to help me.
