Is food getting saltier or is it just me ?

Not quite, It's a mix of Sodium and Potassium chloride, so for the same amount of "salt", you have half as much sodium. However, taking excess potassium can be dangerous in certain cases, so it seems that these products must be used with care.

Best just take less salt and top up the flavour with herbs and spices.

Try to avoid canned vegetables which are loaded with salt. Take a look at the Ingredients label and see how much Sodium is in the can of most vegetables.

As long as you don't exceed your daily limit it makes no difference where you get your sodium from.

Did you know the word salary comes from the Romans? They were paid with salt rations. Salt is important to the human body.

If you have cut down your salt usage, and then eat processed food, you'll find it saltier than you remember. Salt and sugar tolerances can be built up or reduced by diet changes.

We have found younger chefs at restaurants tend to oversalt food. They are cocktail and beer drinkers - wine has gotten too expensive for them to drink it every day - and so they have high sugar/salt tolerances compared to DH and me.

I dislike oversalted food. DH has more tolerance for salt and sugar than I do. When I encounter oversalted food when we dine out, I have no hesitation in returning it to the kitchen.
