I like living in the country. No more houses can be built in the township without a minimum of 5 acres of land. This ordinance which was passed about 20 years ago. If someone has less than that amount, it was only because the lot existed prior to the ordinance.
Just the other day, one small city had a group of citizens that got enough signatures to put on the ballot to keep the area rural & keep massive houses on postage stamp size lots from going in. It was overwhelming passed!!!
This happened last year in another nearby city in the county who had the same issue & the same outcome.
People want the small towns to stay small & are tired of developers who are from out of town, if not from out of state, coming in putting in these cheaply built houses & charges big prices for them. We just built new schools in the past 10 years & now any proposed new housing developments would make those schools too small. That puts the burden back on the people who have lived here for years. The developers sure in the Hades aren't going to pay money towards adding on the schools that they caused to be overfilled.
This is the second time within a year in the county that this same issue has been on the ballot in another city where the people voted to keep new housing developments out of the area. Same issues of having overcrowded schools, roads unable to handle the uptick in traffic, etc.
Basically, everyone is tired of out of state developers wanting to make money on us & not having to live with the problem that they have created. Let's not forget the mayors & city councils that see dollar signs with having new development without thinking about the people who elected them. I have a feeling the mayor & vice-mayor instigating the last development may be getting recalled in the next election if enough signatures are gathered to put in the ballot.
