Is it too late to get new carpeting?

too late for what ?? - it's never too late for anything - being too late is a false staste of mind - just do what you want when you want?

That sounds odd. Will they move what is needed if you pay extra?
Not that I know of.. In the past my husband and I had to move the lighter furniture out of the room ourselves.. leaving the 3 heaviest.. .. and the fitters would move those 3 to one end of the room while they fitted the carpet.. and then back over to finish the other end.. They were always pedantic about having 3 or less items to shift..

Now I'm on my own, if I need new carpet, I'm never going to mange to move anything...

Thanks, I will have to try it!
The bottle I have, which is the brand I tried many years ago when I was having issues is Essence of Life. I still have a good amount left in the bottle, since I now only use it for muscle cramps, near instant relief.

I don't think that brand is available anymore, but this looks like it might be similar. Here's a link to Amazon. I've also used Swanson Vitamins mag oil years ago, but it didn't seem to be as strong. The spray bottles may need to be rinsed under hot water to clear a salt clog in the nozzle, I have a regular bottle. It is oily, so be careful not to spill on bedding, etc.

I massaged it on my feet, and it really worked. Now I use it for toe, foot, leg cramps. If I can get to it quickly and use it without spilling on the bed, I get near instant relief. It's also good for back muscle aches, neck aches, etc., but can cause some itching due to the salt content. On my feet I never experienced itching. On my back, when itching happened, I put a body lotion over it and it seemed to quiet the itch.

Well, I think you, Deb or I can call in a handyman to help on the day that furniture needs to be moved. There must be a way these days for stores that sell carpeting to service all customers regardless of strength or age, lol. At least I hope. Been years since we bought new carpeting, but will probably need to get some in the future.

yes well that's what we've said in the past..that what happens with people who aren't capable of moving the furniture but we still got told only 3 items allowed.. If I remember I'll call them and ask , they might have changed their policy since the last time..

Yeah, would be a bummer if they said screw you, we only move three pieces. But who knows these days, anything is possible.

well like I say that's always been the policy... but. it may have changed in recent years, I'll have a look on their website now, and if doesn't make reference to it I'll try and remember to call them sometime this week. I'm thinking of getting new stair carpet anyway..not that anything needs moving for that..

We put down wood in the living room & hallway with slate tile in the entry when we built. Kitchen is tiled & bathrooms have linoleum. The rest of the house had carpet which we have been replacing with wood floors. The first floor is done & now the second floor is the last with carpet. Hopefully through winter that will be gone.

I don't miss the carpet at all, especially with animals.

One good flood will cure you of ever wanting carpet... hopefully you never have one.

The first hurricane flood we had in Florida was with carpet. We had a 100 lb bag of dog food that broke open and mixed with the sand and mud. Then it was a couple of weeks before we could get to the house, it was August very hot and humid and no AC of course, no electricity. The carpet/dog food/mud was well fermented. I'll never forget the smell of that carpet as we took it out.

Now I'd go with unfinished plywood... or even dirt floor before I put another carpet down...
I remember back when I couldn't wait to get wall to wall carpeting. First I got it in the bedroom, then a few years later in the living room. I wound up having to remove both. They were a PITA to keep clean, the living room one started to buckle and I wound up getting rid of them both. I have had floods in the apartment but luckily, the last one was after I got rid of the carpeting. I will never buy carpeting again. When I finally made up my mind what flooring I wanted after looking both online and in stores for 3 years, COVID hit ! :sneaky:

No carpets here. When we moved in last year it was mostly the original wooden floorboards from when the bungalow was built in 1964 - which we love. Two rooms had cheap laminate flooring over the floorboards - so we've replaced that with good quality stuff as the boards underneath were not in great condition. The only awefull vinyl stuff is in the kitchen - which will be replaced when we have the old kitchen replaced. It's on the list!

Wow. After reading this I'm torn. I thought when we replaced our carpet it would be with hard wood floors which most people do these days.
Now I see some good reasons to replace with new carpet.

We don't have pets or little ones. We will likely stay in the house as long as possible. No floods unless from plumbing.

My concern is the environmental issue of fumes in carpet. I wonder if that has changed for the better?

Now, now, Avon we want neither Holly nor Deb to attract the wrong sort to their homes.

Since I passed a certain age a few years ago I no longer hesitate to play the old lady card. When the cable company sent around new boxes to everyone with installation instructions attached, I called and said I couldn't do it because I was too old and they happily sent a technician to do it for me (while my husband and son were off at work.) When I bought a new faucet set for the kitchen sink at Home Depot, I said the same thing and got the sweetest young plumber out of it. We pay too much for this stuff anyway!

I don't think my furnace has a filter - it a hot water baseboard heating system. This past spring I removed all the covers and vacuumed the insides, but that didn't help with the dust.
I can wipe off a tabletop and in 4 days there's enough dust to grow grass. This is after running my hand over about 7 inches of tabletop. It looks fibrous which makes me suspect the origin is the carpeting. The previous owner had two basset hounds and I don't know what steps were taken to clean the carpets, if any, before selling the house. The living room has deep pile, but there's dust in every room. My bedroom is also bad, but it's more of a grayish white fine powdery dust.

Holey Mackeral, Deb! I just did my weekly dusting and vacuuming ( and I still don't feel clean thanks to you guys ;) ) but I didn't get any visible dust from anything.

Twice a year I do a deep cleaning when I dust behind furniture and the tops of the kitchen cabinets and at no place do I get anything like that.

My carpeting is 18 years old and has never been steam cleaned except in areas where the kitchen flood reached. The insurance company dried all that, took up the carpet and dried the padding, then steam cleaned the entire living and dining room with the big truck-machine. I asked if it was particularly dirty and they said not at all.

Something is wrong Deb, either your carpet is deteriorating like Hearlady said or something else. You don't even have your furnace on do you? So it couldn't be that.

Why do you have so much furniture? It's not like you throw parties, or do you? How many chairs can you sit in at once? Nice chairs btw.
