Is there a way to shut off copilot or disable it?

I went into Settings on my Microsoft Edge browser, went to Copilot and saw some settings for it, heard it, kind of got a forced info ad.....but no option to shut it down, delete it or disable it.

There was only an option to get the icon off the task bar. I had disabled and hidden the sidebars on that Windows 11 computer also in the past, and now suddenly when I start up, I get a big ad from the sidebar which blocks the background image on my desktop. That may or may not be related.

Is there any way to get rid of this Copilot, I don't use it and it seems to be interrupting my computer use. Any ideas?

I too would like to know the answer. I only want AI to appear when I actually ask for it.

I clicked on this thinking it was about airplanes. LOL.

I'm sorry, but I can be of no help to you. You lost me at 'I went into Settings'.
No, I'm all for those copilots, never want to get rid of them. :)

Thank you, but that seems a little too technical and involved for me to try right now.

My computer does not have that Group Editor Tool either. Removing it only from the taskbar was simple in the basic settings I looked at, but I do not believe that just removing an icon from the taskbar disables or deletes a program.

I would have liked to be given the choice from the beginning really, instead of them just installing it and not having a simple way to shut it off. I do appreciate your link and info. 👍

365 and Copilot are interconnected check there.
You can shut off tha Audio part in Settings / ..... Microsoft-x
Go to System, select Apps ..... Startup .... shut off 365 / Copilot

if you go on youtube.com and type in the search bar - how do I get rid of copilot, it will show you step by step instructions. i turned mine off on the Edge browser but I can't remember how I did it.

You could also try to stop it from launching.
Open your task manager (right click on the taskbar and click on "task manager"). On the left side of the task manager there's a series of icons, on mine, the 5th one down (it looks like a tiny speedometer to me) will open "Startup Apps" when you click on it. Find Copilot, and under the "Status" column, right-click the word "enabled" and change it to disabled. This should prevent Copilot from launching automatically.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but when I see all of these new 'gizmos' from Microsoft, I suspect they are just more information gathering tools. I don't want Microsoft to decide what or where I should do or go without them knowing my intentions.
I don't remember how, but I got rid of that 'onedrive' nuisance a while ago, and now, I've got the bit between my teeth, I'm gonna shoot down that 'copilot' thing from my Spitfire technology. "What ho, old chaps." 😊

I'm not an IT guy but I'm pretty sure that trying to remain anonymous these days is next to impossible. Some of these programs (One Drive being a major one) are nearly impossible to vanquish. Copilot seems to be the same, there's no simple way to just uninstall it.

Wow, I love, love, love Copilot. I ask it complex questions all the time for guidance, and it is extremely helpful, and saves me so much time sorting through pages of browser results. To me, it is the most useful thing MS has come up with in years. it provides scenarios, comparisons, and it can do complicated math effortlessly.

It's like having a tax pro, a financial advisor, psychologist, philosopher, medical advisor, personal assistant, automotive specialist, and so much more all rolled into one. However, to each his own. It's not on my screen, unless I click on it, so it's never a problem.

I agree.

Not paranoid, M$ as well as the other tech companies "lay awake" at night thinking of more effective ways to grab your user data / online behavior.
I don't allow Microsoft or any of their products near my computers.
