Is there anyone or anything you actually hate?

TY...I remember your citing Dr. Kevin Nelson. I have heard similar theories but not as many as the opposite. Guess someday we will know..or not know 🙂
Uh, who the heck is Dr. Kevin Nelson? Don't remember quoting anybody by that name and I've googled him & he doesn't look familiar. I may have quoted something here on SF from Thomas Nelson, a wildlife biologist and ecologist at North Georgia College & State University, who said, "…how science works[: scientists] are open to new ideas, but skeptical until there is good supporting evidence…" (quoted in Abominable Science! by Daniel Loxton & Donald R. Prothero).

But don't think I've ever quoted a Kevin Nelson.

i go a bit nuts when i hear mature (old) adults say things like... i HATE some kind f food only to find out they've never even tasted it. i can't "hate" rap music, but i know an awful lot of it is obscene trash.

i think you could hate a person (or institution) who caused horrible injury or death to a loved one.

Chic, here's a sort-of modern day Count of Monte Cristo story; how this man's hatred and need for revenge kept him alive, and how he finally reconciled and overcame his hatred.

Oh. Guess you'll have to go to the source.
As usual youtube took this down for some reason. But the Count of M C also overcame his his hatred after he escaped and exacted revenge from those who had him imprisoned for 14 years on false charges. His revenge was extreme and he ruined the lives not only of the men who ruined him but also members of their families. At this point, he came to regret the level of his hatred and retired to the Orient with his concubine.

My opinion, in certain instances hatred is justified. It's a feeling deep in the heart that doesn't have to be acted upon. I think trying to deny it is more damaging.
I agree. Trying to deny an intense and justified hatred IS more damaging that the emotion itself. I don't recommend hatred, but as many have mentioned there are things to hate in this world and in its history. One thing that always makes me sick is how Nazis treated European Jews during WWII, and how the Japanese treated POWS. It's heartbreaking.

Is there anyone or anything you actually hate?

I can't

I've tried

Oh, how I've tried

Jus' can't

I've got this flash temper that takes care of any lingering thoughts of resentment or hostility t'ward any one/thing

Once that's burned out, I'm back to my usual loving jovial self;

Feeling negative emotions at one time or another is quite normal … how long a period you entertain these destructive thoughts is another matter. There are many world events that I hate and many world figures who have caused disastrous things to occur that I loathe.

The hate that is the most damaging is personal hate, meaning people within reach. That sort of hate eats a person up inside and has a devastating effect on minds and organs in the body. That is not to say one has to love everything that’s happening around you but your health comes first. Get rid of the hate for your own sake.

Now.. if we are talking about ‘things’ to hate, there is nothing I detest more than bullying, the bully who gets a kick out of making fun of another person who is in no position to retaliate. I hate the gossip mongers who feed on titbits of false information for their own gratification. Very sad… but the question was asked and I like to give honest answers.

I was surprised on my thread about dying that so many here do not believe in an afterlife. I am trying to figure out why. For me the older I become (I'm 76) and the more I read from philosophies, religions, from ancient times to the present, the more convinced I am in a life after life.
I used to think people believed out of fear but I no longer think that is true.
Many here do believe in afterlife but have learned not to share their belief in online forums. You said, "I am trying to figure out why", so please allow me to say...as you know, online forums are not always a measure of reality.

So many Christian believers in the afterlife have realized that their opinion in online forums causes personal heated attacks, and yes hatred, from unbelievers instead of acceptance of other's freedom of speech and religion. Yet, they go on sharing their own faith in atheism or unbelief.

In fact, several Christian members brought that up in your afterlife thread, right out of the gate...and then they backed out...I followed. We're not afraid but it's just not worth the angst it causes from some unbelievers (not all of course). I have lost a handful of SF friends by sharing my Christian belief even though I'm not trying to change their minds. Not that I would want a friend that isn't tolerant of others.
It ruins member's threads. It's unfortunate.

I believe our souls live on forever and have zero shame expressing my beliefs. My reason for avoiding such threads ? My ego gets involved instead of my heart.

I do not hate. All hate does is define you as a hater. I do try and avoid haters but my ego often latches on needlessly to topics and things it needn’t. Like most of us, I am a work in progress and must try harder.

note: had a lot of hate ( more frustration ) going on last year though & it felt horrible

TV commercials....especially all this prescription drug nonsense. As a result I wear out my remote batteries prematurely by hitting the Mute button, or switching channels.

I hate websites that won't let you open links in a new tab.

I hate Netflix autoplay and the annoying sound effects, and that if you put too many videos in your watch list, the app gets really slow and sometimes crashes, which is probably due to it running out of memory, and I don't think the memory in my Roku box is expandable. I don't have that problem with Amazon Prime video, but they don't have that damn autoplay. I'd like to give up Netflix, but they still have the best selection of videos, so I just have to put up with them. Amazon is a much better company. Their services are far better than pretty much any other company out there, which is one reason they're so successful, although, that's from a consumer's point of view. Sellers have all sorts of complaints.
