Is there some kind of weird little thing people in your area/town/state/province do?

Is there some kind of weird little thing people in your area/town/state/province do? The reason I ask is that I was born, and raised in Massachusetts. Somebody pointed out that, we always included a "Mass.", whenever we spoke of a city in the Bay State. For instance you say, "Boston", we say "Boston, Mass." WE just can't say, "Sturbridge", it's "Sturbridge, Mass.". My brother, who still lives in Mass., said he was driving through, "Webster, Mass"., I don't know why we have to have a "Mass." after the name of the place, but we do.
Have you noticed any such little traditions in your area?

Where I live people have a way of abbreviating everything, including place-names. Unless you live in the area, you might be struggling to understand where...Ozzy, Accy, Rammy, Barlick are.

Yep...in this are of our county.. whenever anyone says Hello to a casual friend.... they say 'Wotcha " .. which comes from an 18th century greeting meaning '' what cheer'' ... ''how are you''

No other part of the country uses this as a greeting
I think that originates in Liverpool...the Beatles were known for saying 'Wotcha Wack'.

In my area, that's the sign for "Buy your drugs here". And if it's heroin, the shoes will be black, or any color that isn't white...depends on what's available when you're ripping them off someone's feet.
I never knew...

I imagine it makes the job of law enforcement easier when they already have a heads-up on drug buying locations.

Anyhow, thanks for weighing in on this for me, Mur.

Marg, Due to "DEFUNDING" We have one officer. That's all. He's not stupid! He knows what's going on in the community
So, like Murrmurr said, "What law enforcement?"

When i lived in Sitka, Alaska, It was WAVING! OMG! Everyone waved at each other all the time! When the Sun was out, ( it rained almost always) People would jump in their vehicles and drive up and down the road, WAVING!

That's definitely not a good thing, Gaer.

Was the defunding the result of the movement following the George Floyd case?

Back in Vermont, they always called folks from Massachusetts "mass-holes". I'm thinking they were insulting those there flatlanders.

Yes, and a Democratic Governor. There is a Sheriff's Dept in a nearby town. But that's IT!
Just get a bunch of people together and demand that your Governor completely eliminate the police force.
Then explain to the poop hole that the police are all that stands between me and him and me taking care of the problem myself. ;) (y)

you're welcome.jpg

On the linguistic front, double negatives (even heard a woman manage a *triple* negative )

In driving, some folks around here will get into the on-coming lane before they turn left Freaks me out every time
