Is this legit or a scam?

I Googled the phone number and saw this. Sales agents usually cost you more money....

Another one today I suspect is a scam:
If you sold a home and paid a commission to a real estate agent. you may be part of class action settlements.

Nope it's valid, lawyers looking for clients in the hopes of enriching themselves.

March 29 (Reuters) - "A federal judge in Chicago on Wednesday ruled that home sellers accusing the National Association of Realtors and a group of real estate brokerages of conspiring to inflate commission rates can move forward as a class action.

U.S. District Judge Andrea Wood's decision, opens new tab grants class-action status to past home sellers seeking more than $13 billion in damages and creates a separate class of current and future sellers who want a court injunction that bars subsequent violations of U.S. antitrust law."

I was no longer working for the company I had worked for about 15 years at two different locations. I got a class action suit thing in the mail. Since I no longer worked for them, I sent it in. Had I been still working for the company, no way.

Anyway it went by weeks worked I think? Maybe months, I don't remember. It was related to staff not getting proper breaks. But I clearly had many. At the beginning, I would have received thousands of dollars. What did I get in the end? Around 400 dollars. I deposited the check in my checking and then wrote a check for the exact amount to a cat charity in my town. Bleep their money, I didn't want it. I'd have taken those thousands though. :D Scam adjacent.

This year Excellus BCBS is offering a Medicare Advantage plan in my area that has a $48 monthly part B refund.

I compared it to the zero premium plan that I have and the new plan has slightly higher copays and wouldn’t be a bargain for me but it might be a good plan for someone in good health with few prescriptions.

I’ve received those official looking offers and I toss them in the trash.

Do your homework and stick with insurers that you are familiar with.

Not a scam, but if anyone thinks they're getting much out of that...... Most of the $$$ will end up in the lawyer's pockets. Typical for class action suits. I'm participating in it, but expecting nothing.

Once in a while there's a class action case you get signed onto automatically. Capitol One had a suit brought against them a few years ago for a partial security breach. Named in the suit were all card-holders who were "affected" (had a Cap 1 card during that small window of time), including me.

I got a letter where you check a box to verify you want in on it, but I tossed it. About a year later, I got a check for $37.29. The law firm got close to a million.

So, I was named as a complainant without even checking that box.

You know damn well the representing firms assign every attorney they have to "your" case, and probly all their paralegals and secretaries, so all their fees can be included. And I'm sure they actively seek out these breaches and whatnot, like in public announcements and Forbes articles and such. Although, these days they can probly just sign up somewhere for notifications.

WOW! That would almost buy a package of ground beef.

This is real and I submitted the proof they asked for. I was part of the capital one lawsuit and got $670 so it was worth a little bit of my time.

Years ago, there was a class action suit against, I think, Mr. Coffee because the handle was detaching from the carafe.

Since we had bought that particular model, I signed up. Some months later, I received my "settlement"....a coupon for 50% off a new carafe. I can't imagine how much the law firms involved must have made.

It’s hard to sort the real from the fake. Have to look them up. I just got a check for unsolicited robocalls - Smith vs Assurance IQ. Also, another large check from Banc Corp, probably from a real estate transaction back in the 2000’s. A third one I didn’t look up until the deadline had passed. It was real too, but I messed up. It was for overpriced epinephrine injectors for my daughter years ago.

But there are plenty of fake ones - like the company trying to sell Medicare Advantage plans.
