Is "toybox 465" a 'him' or a 'her'?

Say " toybox 465" writes an absolutely great thread. And I want to reply. but is "toybox 465" a 'him' or a 'her'. As the way the forum is structured, you don't know, unless it's added in their profile. And if it isn't ? I have a hard time trying to reply without saying him or her. Plus, if you're a female, you do not want to be called a guy, and vice versa. Do you think, there may be some icon or something to indicate gender in your avatar, it would be completely voluntary?
Maybe SF could do that without causing too much grief?

Yep, cause no doubt if they prefer other they'll let you know but they have no grounds to take offense if neither profile or avatar give any more clue than screen name.

I don't even know if "Matrix" is a him or a her.
I have received "personal messages" from he/she/its.
and sometimes, a known man will refer to himself in a post as a "she".
All very confusing! Yes, It would be wonderful if we knew if it were
a male or a female posting.

I chose an avatar that looks feminine. If someone’s avatar is just an initial in a coloured ball, I usually use that as an indicator of sex. Sometimes I’m wrong.

That motivated me to figure out how to set an avatar. When I did it, I was also prompted to respond to a 'required' field for which of two genders I am. Is that new?
