Is your home silent?

The television is usually on during the day and I have an electric fan on at night to provide some white noise.

Being in a totally quiet place where all you can hear is the clock ticking and you can actually watch the dust falling on sunny days reminds me of being a bored little kid on Sunday afternoon.

When working, I got into the habit of leaving the tranny on all day for the pets so they'd feel good whilst I/we were out working. The birds loved trilling along with the music and the dog equally loved it as company for 13yrs ā˜ŗļø

Now I've no pets but as soon as I get up, the same old battery tranny (getting on for 40yrs old now ;)) gets switched on and stays on all day when I'm home, until evening when I put TV or CDs on.

But I do enjoy silence too, especially if I'm concentrating on something.

No I live in a dense upscale urban zone that has constant sources of sound. At night can hear freeways a mile distant. I love quiet conditions.

Very few people, especial those that live in urban areas, ever get to experience true dead silence. I first experienced such as a teenager exploring primitive limestone caves. As an adult also in some remote waterless landscapes and wilderness during breezeless dawn and early mornings. Many areas in the Colorado Plateau, especially within Utah have such places. Unfortunately due to my own poor judgement attending rock music events as a twentysomething, like many others, I have somewhat damaged my ear cochlea hair neural sensors, so have a constant background buzz that masks quiet.

No. I dislike TVs running without actually watching a show so I never use them as background noise.

Occasionally have music on i n the background but usually nothing.

Its not silent though - I can atm hear birds outside and sometimes the sounds of cars, people, dogs etc.

Thanks for all your input. Looks like it's sort of evenly divided here between sound and silence. I only like half the songs on any radio station, so I usually just leave the TV on, but I think I'll leave it off awhile to see if concentration and anxiety improves.
