Israel Has Declared War after Unprecedented Hamas Attack

Well I go from BBC to Sky to Al Jazeera and try to build a picture.
Well then you might as well be watching CNN. er...maybe you're in the UK, so, the BBC. Personally, I think the BBC is a bit less slanted than CNN.

But Sky and Al Jazeera will only confuse you. They both intentionally use certain words and phrases that tickle their audience's presuppositions so the audience will form their opinions from the desired perspective, and believe it's their own actual opinion.

Mainstream media does the same thing, and they're really good at it.

(I'm just trying to help you out)

Rose is here in England :)

This from the Guardian at:
What is Palestinian Islamic Jihad and what is its relationship with Hamas?

What is Palestinian Islamic Jihad?

The Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine (Ḥarakat al-Jihād al-Islāmī fī Filasṭīn), or Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) as it is more often known, is the second largest armed group in Gaza. It is considered one of the most extreme and uncompromising Palestinian armed factions and operates on the West Bank too. Last week, PIJ were also reported to have attacked Israel from Lebanon. It rejects any political peace process and sees a military victory over Israel as the sole means of attaining its objective of establishing an Islamic state across Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.

For this particular situation I first go to ...
The Times of Israel

And directly to the official Israeli Defense Force (IDF) site ...
Official Website | IDF

If I want a decidedly Arab leaning point of view ...
Al Jazeera

I have not turned on the TV even once to watch news of the events
And usually do not watch any TV or mainstream media news reports regardless

Yes I'm in the UK.

@Warrigal ... here is the evidence currently presented by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF)
Even including a recorded phone conversation between Hamas operatives confirming it to be a Hamas rocket.
Also there are several videos and pictures. It's a pretty long article so I'll just post a link ...
IDF presents evidence misfired Gazan rocket caused hospital blast, slams Hamas ‘lies’
Why do news outlets even print or announce reports coming directly from Hamas? I just don't get it.

They messed up. One of their missiles NEARLY hit a hospital, actually landing in the parking lot. It's all theater after that.

Looking at the size of the crater and how many cars burned and how many of them still have windows, there's no way 500 people were killed by that thing. No Freaking Way. Those corpses were props and the report is a lie.

Like I said, I don't understand why we're even seeing it.

This from the New York Times at:
Islamic Jihad, the group Israel blamed for the hospital blast, is an armed group often aligned with Hamas.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an armed group based in Gaza, was blamed by the Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday night after hundreds of people were reported killed by a strike at Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.
The Israeli military said the blast was caused by a rocket fired by the group that failed after launching. The Gazan health authorities said the blast had been caused by an Israeli airstrike.

What is Palestinian Islamic Jihad?
The second-largest armed group in Gaza, Islamic Jihad has often been eclipsed by the larger Hamas organization, which has controlled and governed Gaza since 2007.

I'd guess it's for public relations purposes — so they can blame the Jews.
No doubt that's what terrorists aim for, what I don't understand is why the media prints it and runs it on TV. Why are they even broadcasting this lie? And with a straight face.

I know mainstream media doesn't actually do any research, but they only had to look at the source; who reported it. That's customary, so they obviously knew the source.

Hamas military intelligence was the source. "Hamas intelligence" ...was that supposed to be a pun? Maybe irony. Or sarcasm.

Anyway, they're all back-peddling now. Also customary ...these days.

Well, I've read that reportedly there were masses of people in the Hospital courtyard and perhaps parking lot.
500 ... 499 ... 501? Dunno
Images show maybe a dozen or so cars. It's a small parking lot. Only 3 or 4 cars caught fire, a few had broken windows, but most weren't damaged at all.

The hospital itself had some broken windows. It's assumed that's from bits of shrapnel. The type of Israeli missile that was blamed doesn't contain shrapnel, and their impact causes very few of the kind of object-flying that punches holes in windows and walls.

The answer to why they print or broadcast it probably lies in who owns the outlet and who have they hired to write their stories.

I have lost trust in the BBC and frankly all the others.I do not know who to believe. Everyone has an agenda and a slant.

Saw 200 dead or casualties this morning. Since it hit a parking lot can't imagine more than 50 casualties unless they were staging something there.

First thing that goes in war is the truth as they say.
I keep reading that they are still collecting body parts. Yet other reports say it was minimal damage. Oh I am so confused.

You're not alone. And some of the people involved are confusing you intentionally.

There are some aerial videos and a few satellite images of that hospital before and after it was "hit by a missile." Military investigators and experts from various countries have analyzed the images. For several reasons, almost all of them agree that it was not an Israeli missile, and it didn't hit the hospital, it hit the hospital's parking lot.

One reason is that the amount of damage is far from extreme. Some even say it's minimal. An Israeli missile would have demolished the hospital, the parking lot, and several other buildings in the area.

There's also video of a stream of missiles being fired from Gaza, not Israel. Then it shows one missile breaking up, and moments later an impact where the hospital is, and a fire immediately breaks out there.

Here's a CNN report, but it's a really good one, and it's only 8 minutes long and gets to the point.
It shows a retired US General breaking down videos of that missile going awry, and showing photos of the damage at the hospital.

So, how do you get the correct information out and in a way that people will listen?
Also, people keep saying that Hamas doesn't represent the Palestinians. The Palestinians elected Hamas. If they feel duped they should turn on them and fight them.

Consider that this explosion took place at around 2 AM, why would "500 people " be standing around in a parking lot ? My answer is this. An opponent group ( Islamic Jhihad ) fired a rocket into the air, hoping to hit Israel territory. The rocket motor malfunctioned almost immediately after becoming airborne, so the fuel laden rocket crashed to the ground, in the parking lot near the hospital.

The explosion crater in the parking lot, as shown on Hamas TV, showed a small crater, perhaps 4 feet wide and two feet deep. Cars in the parking lot were, in some cases, set on fire from the burning rocket fuel, while others only had their windows broken out. As per standard Hamas rhetoric, they claimed a huge loss of life. IDF has released radar video showing the tracks of rockets being fired from Gaza at that time. This shows the arc and fall of the malfunctioning rocket, and it's landing spot. In soccer terms, Hamas or one of it's allied groups scored an "own goal " on themselves. JimB.

Incredible. But not unexpected where terrorists are involved. The issue of people in the parking lot at all hours... before it stopped live-streaming, there was a cam I saw last week that showed that hospital entrance... and the hospital grounds were a "safe place" for displaced Palestinians. There were a lot of people there... just walking around no matter what time it was. So regardless of what the true casualty number is, it was where a lot of families gathered for "safety."
