It wasn't a tiger but I did grab it by the tail

Let the dogs out for a potty break. Littles came in then big dog started with the barking. I got a slice of cheese to tempt him but he would not come. Put on my shoes and went outside. He was in a back corner of the yard that has shrubs.

I did not see anything, next thing I know I can see he has something in his mouth.
DROP!!-----him YEAH RIGHT!! The chase was on, round and round. Run back in the house and grab a ham bone that I had taken from the freezer yesterday. No beans for me, no hot cornbread and butter. But he finally dropped the thing.

I did not know what the dog would do so I just reached over him and grabbed the tail. By then I knew it was a possum. Either way it would be dead or play dead. I carried to the back yard gate and gently laid it down on the ground. I don't think it is dead, the tail was warm. I did see a little blood on it's leg but Bear was not slinging it around, just had it around the stomach area. He did not seem to be biting down hard.

I will go check when I take out the trash. If it is dead, I will get it into a bag to go with the trash in the morning. I hope it is okay, I''m kind of worried it might be a Mom or is pregnant, it was very round.

Wow...you had an adventure, of sorts. I would so not be able to do that!
I have learned how to do all kinds of things since my husband passed. Dealing with critters is the least favorite. It was my big dog, he could kill it if he had to or wanted to. The worst thing I worry about is the dogs getting a hold of an animal that is poisened, dead or alive. I try to walk the yard daily to check for problems but at night I don't know they are there, it happens.

It is just like our children, we do what we have to when there is danger.

I hope the poor thing lived?
Yes, it lived, when I went to put the trash out it was gone. Did not go far as it was walking a top my 6 foot privacy fence. The dogs went nuts again but were not able to make him/her fall.

I do believe it is a she and has had kits or will be soon. She has made a nest nearby I think. I think she has chose the yard kitty corner to my back yard. They have a shed she could next under and they also do not contain there trash. So she has a regular buffet at hand and the yard next to theirs has a koi pond for fresh water.

That was very kind and considerate of you to make sure momma possum is ok. Sweet actually.
