It wouldn't happen now.

PCism has been with us for a while now and stuff we used to laugh about goes down like lead balloon these days.

Seinfeld never tickled my funny bone but I did like Archie Bunker (USA) & Love thy neighbour (UK), they go down in flames today.
There must be plenty of shows which wouldn't cut the mustard today.

what was great about Love they neighbour was that it was supposed to be the white racist guy against the his Black neighbours.. and in fact the writers turned the tables and made the Black guy more racist than the white guy... ..and the 2 wives best friends...

As you say it wouldn't be allowed today...

It's worse in the workplace. United Airlines has a zero tolerance practice if any racist or sexist jokes are told. Even if someone reads a joke from a magazine, the reader can be fired if the joke fits into one of those categories.

Things change, tastes change, what is acceptable in one era isn't in another. Society as a whole evolves or dies. Nothing wrong with that, imo.

I mean, I loved Love Thy Neighbor as a kid, but honestly it is a little embarrassing now. We certainly don't need another series.

I think a lot of this perceived "PCism" is just people getting old and hating change. I think this why death exists, we can no longer keep up, so we shuffle off into eternity.

I hate the term "PC", politically correct. It sounds so lah de dah. I think it's learning to be civilized. I don't know why respecting each other is such a horrible imposition. Yeah, it used to be fashionable to be racist, sexist, etc., but we grew up. That's probably what civilization is all about.

Smoking in restaurants and...well, anywhere basically.
Getting on an airplane without being practically strip searched.
Fixing your own car.
Driving a car with no seatbelt.

One of my favorite comedians is Chris Rock. Not PC at all. But probably too much for posting here.
One of his very best videos was " How not to get shot by the Police ". A short but very much to the point commentary about how black people need to listen, and comply with what Police are asking them to do. chris rock how not to get shot by the police video - Bing

In my personal experience here in Toronto as an Auxiliary Police Constable, I saw first hand how SOME people talk their way into being arrested. JimB.

That's the one! He's hilarious, and the sketch seems more like a public service announcement.
