ITN America Senior Transportation Service

Have you or someone you know tried the ITNAmerica senior transportation service or an affiliate of it? As I understand, this service transports seniors to doctors, shopping, etc. within their service area for a yearly membership fee but I could be wrong about how they charge. There may be other charges but I'm not sure just exactly how it works. There is an affiliate of this service coming to this area later on this year and I was interested in it but it hasn't started operating yet. I know I could ask them these questions but I like to hear from people that have used products or services rather than just the service itself. If you have any more information, please feel free to respond.

I've never heard of this particular company. I know there are non emergency medical van services but they are at a cost.

I think many if not most public transportation bus services in any town of size has a door to door van service for seniors and handicapped and the cost is very minimal. I see it utilized in my town.

Haven't heard of this one. Suggest you contact your state/county dept of aging. There are many services available at low/no cost for seniors.

Thank you Kitties and applecruncher for your replies and suggestions. I had heard someone talking about it on a local radio station but before that, I had never heard of them either.

I looked at their Orlando (FL) website - I hadn't heard of them before. They have membership programs that seem to offer $1.50/mile and a $4 pickup fee - if so that's quite expensive for a round-trip shopping expedition or doctor's appointment, at least compared to what my roomate here in PA pays for the local county-run transport service - I believe she pays $2 flat fee for wherever she goes.

The ITN site does mention there are discounts available, but it seems a bit confusing. Might be best to wait until they actually start up in your area and talk to them directly.

Good luck!

Oh, I'm not going to join now, I'm just doing my homework but I appreciate you checking into it for me. I have found it to be confusing also. I had to quit driving and I live so far out in the county, transportation can be a problem and I hate the thoughts of moving. I don't mind paying as long as I won't be putting more into it than I would if I were still driving and paying for gas, upkeep of a car, and insurance. That per year can run into a lot of money. Thanks again!

I drive a "medicab" If you are a medicaid recipient, you can get free rides to and from approved doctor, and other medically related appointments. It is definitely not like having a private car at your beck an call but is better than a full day of bus transfers for a 1 hr appt.

Thank you but I won't qualify because I'm not a medicaid recipient but I do appreciate you trying to help.

I missed my last doctor's appointment waiting for a scheduled bus that never came, so I know what you're talking about. Had the bus come I would have had to ride it for half an hour, then transfer to a second bus, ride that for another half-hour then walk a few blocks to my appointment.

And this is in the "heart of the city".

That's true - not having driven for years now I'd forgotten the costs involved in it.

Goodness, between riding the buses, walking to your appointments and then your appointments themselves, I bet that takes up most of the day for you.

That wouldn't be so bad in itself since my days consist mainly of emptiness anyway. What's bad is when you're subject to random bouts of nausea (probably from a bad prescription mix, but find a doctor to admit that), which is bad enough at home but much worse in public ...
