In the 1974 Kentucky Derby, there was a horse called Triple Crown. Maybe the owner thought it would be great if the Triple Crown was won by a horse called Triple Crown. Triple Crown's performance was so dismal that the horse finished 17th in a field of 23 horses. The owner didn't bother to enter the horse in the Preakness.
In 1966, there was a movie released titled The Oscar. Something about an actor wanting to be nominated and win an Oscar. It was panned by the critics. It didn't last long at the theaters. It was nominated for 2 very minor awards, but it didn't win an Oscar.
In the NFL, Washington had a quarterback called Joe Theisman (Thys-man). While in college (Notre Dame), his name was pronounced Thees-man). Someone at Notre Dame told him to pronounce his name Thys-man, so it would rhyme with Heisman, as in the Heisman Trophy. It didn't help. He finished 2nd to Jim Plunkett.
