It's Complicated...

We belong to the town pool. I let the youngest swim and I catch up on my reading. The problem is a young man who is obviously special needs. I'm the first to understand having a special needs kid. My youngest is on the autism spectrum. Happy, chatty and enthusiastic but cognitively about 6 at 14. I understand completely how difficult it is having an older special child.
The problem with this young man is that he shouts. He doesn't seem to have speech, just shouting. He's also big, maybe twenty years old and six feet tall. His caretaker swims and this young man wanders the area around the pools shouting sometimes for a few hours. I wouldn't say anything of course. But it's scary...I'm sure it must frighten the many children there.
Just a sad frustrating situation.

Hi fur, it must be very difficult to have to deal with this young man's noise issues. However, I wouldn't worry too much about the effect on children. Initially some may be shocked/frightened, but children tend to be noisy themselves, especially in a group. Also, most seem to have a built in radar that tells them when unusual people are harmless. Often people who seem gruff or eccentric to adults are accepted by children.
