It's not easy being green.

At long last a new ship has joined the fleet of ferries that serve the Scottish islands. That's the good news.
Supposed to be a 'flagship' for Scotland's 'green' policies, the Glen Sannox can be powered by either Marine diesel or liquefied methane.
Now, many years overdue and millions over budget, it seems that the new ship is no more green than the 31 year old diesel powered ship it is replacing.

It's owners point out that it is a larger, better designed ship, but this too has it's problems as it's normal mainland harbour is too small. In addition, the liquefied methane is not produced locally and has to be transported by road from the south of England. I'm glad that I live on the mainland.
