It's not the 1950s anymore.

I was watching college baseball. A guy hit a home run. After he rounded home, he flipped the "heart" sign ( making a heart sign with fingers) to his team mates. When he got to the dug out, guys lined up to hug him. Somehow, I couldn't picture Ted Williams, Mantle, or Aaron getting big ol' bear hugs after a homer, nor making "heart" signs. Maybe slaps on their butts, but no hugs. It's not the 1950s anymore.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I like to see the players, especially from little league on up through college congratulate their teammates for doing anything that aids their team to win a game. Getting a timely base hit with runners on, hitting a home run, laying down a successful bunt on a squeeze play, making a diving catch to save runs from scoring, etc.

At the major league level, when players hug each other after a homerun, it shows the little boy in them. Just for that moment, they forget about the money. Only for that moment. I like seeing teammates congratulate each other. I was watching the college women’s softball games and they behave the same. Some of those women can hit and throw as well as a man. I wouldn’t like to see guys that claim to be a female get into women’s softball. That could ruin the sport.

Yes it is a big change from the 50's and I am guessing at the time there were some players who were not too happy that Aaron was even on their team let alone give him a slap on the butt.

I agree . And I'll add, I do not like man hugs , and won't allow it on myself.

Just 20 or so years back, men didn't hug other men ...... don't know how in the hell it ever got started.
Yes, and a gentleman never touches a lady without permission. That includes the shaking of hands. He waits, and if she offers her hand, he takes it.
