It's true, Gen Zs can only concentrate one one thing for 60 seconds....

Adult attention spans have actually gotten worse, according to a poll of 2,000 people in the UK.

It found the typical Brit can only focus on a task for an average of just 17 minutes and 10 seconds.
Gen Z fared far worse, with almost half of 18-24-year-olds admitting they got distracted in under 60 seconds.

This compares to only 7 per cent of 65s-and-overs who reporting this level of mental wandering.
Modern living, with constant pings and buzzes from a myriad of devices could also be making British attention spans even worse.

More than a third (36 per cent) of those surveyed said their attention span has worsened in recent years.

The poll, conducted by workplace pension firm Nest, also found the average Brits ability to listen to their partner often only lasts for about 19 minutes.

Tiredness, stress and distractions from mobile phones were among the top reasons adults admitted to losing concentration, the study — commissioned by Nest — revealed.
The poll also found that sorting out finances can only keep us occupied for an average of 19 minutes and 49 seconds, and tasks at work for only slightly longer at 20 minutes and 40 seconds.

Only a fifth (22 per cent) said it had improved.

In 2015, Microsoft announced the average human attention span was just eight seconds—shorter than even the attention span of a goldfish.

But the figure has since been debunked over lack of a 'credible source'.

Of those polled, 39 per cent admitted they feel compelled to check their phones when they lose interest in something.

Apparently they didn't ask how many of them smoke pot every few hours on the daily.
I personally don't know anyone who smokes Pot... the only person I did know many years ago was a bloke who was so laid back he was almost unconscious because he smoked so much of it.. an educated guy, but who stole from the old lady he was supposed to be caring for to fund his habit... he was jailed...

here I really don't know any adults who smoke pot.. it's for kids...

I used to watch some educational shows on TV. One was called "Market Place" and the other was W5. I haven't watch them for a few years but yesterday I saw that You Tube has the 1st show of the 50th year of W5.

I watched only the first 30 seconds. It was horrible. The camera shots kept changing every 2 or 3 seconds if not faster. Then there was the constant, annoying music when the speaker was talking.

Maybe I'm getting old but I find that TV is nothing but brain washing most of the viewers. I rather read a book anytime.

And it was for kids back when GenZs were kids. And most of the ones who smoked it, still do. Trust me, I know them.

I hate that when they keep changing the camera angle. It makes otherwise decent shows completely unwatchable. That's especially true for concert videos.

It doesn't seem that difficult for the producer or director or whoever's in charge of the cameras... Put the camera on whoever's doing or saying something interesting!

It's the Director... and Camera Supervisor, producers have little if anything to do with anything on the floor....

The trouble is, almost anyone can be a director.. and very often it's just kids..basically straight from school...

Some people would say I have a short attention span…sometimes they are correct. I am usually doing several things at once when I am working on a house…and it can appear chaos.

All women perhaps now with the exception of Gen Z's...have been able to multi-task since time immemorial ...without losing concentration ...
I can't focus on something that bores me. But when I am focused, I'm the opposite. I can't tear myself away. No sleep, no food until the job is either completed or I find an efficient place, like between chapters or between related chores, to break off temporarily.

I don't know if Gen Z is worse than Gen Y, or whatever it was before, but back when there was a TV channel devoted exclusively to music videos, I thought the media was getting young people to think in flashes, rather than continuity. And I remember thinking this to going destroy logical reasoning. All that mattered was momentary imagery. A girl twirling with hair flung out in a centrifugal whirl, followed by a close up of a guitarist hammering his strings, the two seconds of a line dance, followed by a close up of cleavage, ........ etc.

Human multitasking - Wikipedia also known as "scatterbrained." :ROFLMAO:
Human multitasking is the concept that one can split their attention on more than one task or activity at the same time, such as speaking on the phone while driving a car. --Wikipedia

I believe that is not true multitasking. You are focused on the phone conversation while you are driving the car unconsciously or vice versa.
You can walk and chew gum and carry on a conversation simultaneously because you are focused on the conversation.
You cannot think of two things at the same time, or so I believe.

Sorry GL...I personally disagree with that, I know for sure I can think of several things not just one or even 2..I am able to focus well on several things at a time as I'm sure are most women...

I asked AI. He said, (and notice he didn't answer the question)
Me: Can one think of two things at the same time?

Copilot: "... some activities, like walking and talking, can be done together because they involve different parts of the brain. But for tasks that require more cognitive effort, like solving a math problem and writing an essay, it’s much harder to do both effectively at the same time."

I believe we are actually switching focuses so incredibly fast that we are unaware of the switch.

yes I understand most things that would take deep concentration can really only be done well while concentrating on one... but I certainly can do several things at a time without any problems....My husband was always astounded at it.. and would gasp ''how do you dooo that ''...?:D

There was always a tendency in that direction in television shows as compared with movies. The focus on an individual actor's face... smaller screen that TV had for decades lent itself to 'head shots'. It became more extreme over time.
