It's Unbelievable How High Tech Is Senslessly Added to Everything!

Oh, I wouldn't mind that at all if I could find one that gives me a choice switching it between manual or automatic! But, when I was having to shop for a new washer, I couldn't find one that gave me that choice. I am like Janie, I don't trust them either even more so after that one was bad from the beginning. If you don't mind telling me, what brand is yours so if I have to go out shopping for one again, I'll know what to look for. The one I'm using now is a refurbished is why I'm asking. I just like to be prepared.

Ours is a GE Hydrowave. It's about 6 years old, so I don't know what the new ones are like. It makes weird clanking sounds when it changes cycles, but that's normal with this model. There is a big cog that engages and disengages under the tub. This was our first problem with it. I was able to fix it thanks to helpful videos i found on the internet.

Ok, thanks! I'll be doing my homework while this one is still working and then hope something similar will be available if and when I need another one.

I agree. I was looking at washing machines the other day because mine is giving signs it might be coming to its end and I saw digital washing machines. What does that even mean? What on a washing machine needs to be digital??

All that refers to is the timer. Instead of mechanical timers, they use digital ones with no moving parts. All electronic for injecting the bleach, softener, and detergent and timing the rinse and spin cycles.

Those were all done with a mechanical timer in the older washing machines. That mechanical timer was subject to problems because the contacts would eventually wear out. I replaced two or three in my washing machine over 20 years.

Now I am in an apartment and they put new washers and dryers in. They are nice. The older ones were continually breaking down and being broken into for the cash. Now it's controlled with a card. No more cash.

I am pretty sure if you can see it - it can see you and I have no interest in being watched or monitored in my own home. I am tired of being "marketed to" in every venue.

Just because we can, doesn't mean we should!!

Sure - why not!? They have sensors, microphones & cameras to send information to their makers! I have no doubt! That way, they know what you will be wanting next time. and can market to you specifically.

Sure seems like it. The old saying .. "Less is more" comes to mind, but I think we've gotten to the point of no return. Everything we buy will have a chip/tracking device. More unneccessary money spent, and more invasion to deal with.

Surely one can see the big improvement of fuel injection as compared to carburetors. No comparison for winter starting in cold climates.

Cars are much better due to technology than the 'good old days'.

My 1953 Pontiac would automatically turn into a gas station and that was without power steering.

Agreed,
Saw a crockpot in Wal-Mart that says its WIFI compatible.
I wonder about it...

Just be careful what you say in front of that crockpot. :)

It's called IOT, internet of things. It's the latest gee whiz gimmick to sell stuff. Wow! I can be 3 states away and start my crockpot with my cell phone! Boy, that's useful. You're going to see more of it.

Privacy is disappearing. Do you have a discount card for CVS, Walgreens, your market, etc.? They keep track of everything you buy. And, that information is valuable and can be sold. Ever donate to one charity and get pleas from a bunch of others? My wife gets catalogs in the mail almost every day from companies she never heard of. They don't need to put ears on your toaster.

The charities selling each other their donors lists.?

That was happening a long time ago well before the high tech age. My wife stopped donating because the requests came in the regular mail.
