I've accomplished stuff

I've accomplished a lot in 15 years but not yet satisfied by the mark I leave behind. Thinking to myself what can I do that sets me apart from others. I suppose scuba training is somewhat out of the ordinary for most people my age, I do it for the adventure not the notoriety. My coworkers and work managers respect me, so do family members.

There must be more I can do, something that will change lives without recognition. It is true, our presence ripples through time and surfaces again in later generations. If you consider the events in time that brings into the present, Kennedy, Viet Nam War, Watergate all of those things are important, but so are we as individuals and the events we experience affect present and future events, everything, everything is connected and meaningful. It reminds me the 'Adventures in Babysitting" who walked into blues bar, no one leaves without singing the blues.

We sing our life song and join others in their songs, it's beautiful thing. No one leaves without singing the blues, did it make a mark on life, it's never too late to sing the blues

I was a teacher. I made more than one mark. Some lasted but a few years, some will last forever. Mostly, I'll never know. I learned to scuba dive in my fifties, thanks to Dave. One of the best things I've ever done. One of the scariest, too. I've had a full life. And there's more to come! Waiting for that vaccine.

I am 82, and still not ready for the rocking chair. In my travels I have been on all 7 continents and all 24 time zones. I have been to the northernmost point in the Americas and the southernmost. For my 80th birthday, I piloted a WW2 P-51 fighter aircraft.IMG_6356.JPG
I have flown over 100 missions for Angel Flight West, taking patients to distant appointments at no cost to them.
But, I am blessed with good health that keeps me going.

What keeps you young? Why aren't more seniors actively enjoying life?

Many seniors never learned how to enjoy life in the first place. The thing that keeps me young is genetic, good health, and a positive outlook on life. It also helps to be financially secure, but many pleasures in life do not cost money, like a day by the ocean. On the other hand, if you want to see what is on the other side of the ocean, it will take money.

I can't speak for anyone else, but your first sentence certainly describes me.
Throughout the time I was raising my family, I "enjoyed" it, but I don't think that's what the topic is about.

I was raised with the approach that I must never have/do anything that doesn't in some way benefit other people; and to this day, I can't "get into" anything that doesn't have some kind of practical purpose. The idea of "hobbies" or "fun" that are only for personal enjoyment seem almost like a foreign language to me.

Totally agree. It’s a learned behaviour.

I was raised to take care of myself and create my own happiness cause nobody is going to do it for me and while I’ve often ‘b*tched’ about it, it’s actually served me well.

Oh yeah!! Good on you for living this life with passion and heart. I'm sure you are an inspiration to those you love, and those who don't even know you yet.
