Japan. Divorcees Can Now Remarry Within 6 Months(was banned)

It was only females who were subject to the 6 month moratorium on remarriage after divorce.

What on earth was the reasoning behind that particular prohibition?
To make sure the next husband could tell whether or not she was pregnant ???

Some around here anyway consider a divorcEE or divorcEAA a women. DivorcED a man.

Anyway that law goes back to the 1800s apparently the Meiji Era which was considered a transitional period from fuedal to a modern society. The first half of the Japanese empire period 1868-1912.
