Rock star Jerry Lee Lewis has died at his Memphis home aged 87.

The Great Balls of Fire singer passed away Friday. Lewis was the last survivor of a generation of rock stars including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. He was touted as a potential successor to Elvis after 'the King' was drafted to serve in the Korean War.

Jerry Lee, aka The Killer, was reported, in error, to have died a couple of days ago. I guess this time he really has passed away.

RIP

p.s. Elvis was drafted in 1958, Korean War was over, and Vietnam had not really started. Elvis was a peace time GI

Apparently marrying at 13 years old wasn't unusual in many parts of the US until relatively recently... even one of our late departed Members here.. was married off to an older man when she was just 13.. she spoke about it on this forum, many times..

R.I.P. Jerry Lee, in the late 1960s early 1970s, a friend
in Cornwall reckoned that I looked like him, I am not
so sure though, I think that he was trying to impress
me.

Still sad.

Mike.

Good God, I think he was an ugly man, I'd take that as an insult Mike.. anyway you certainly look much better than him now ...

Ali was drafted in 1967 during the Vietnam War citing religious reasons. He was stripped of his title and jailed. Several years later the U.S. Supreme Court overturned his conviction. This was before my time, but I studied American History while in college and, yes, this even was in the history books. I also read in a research paper I had picked up that when Ali asked why he wouldn’t serve and go to Vietnam, he made the comment, no Vietnamese ever called me a n____er, so why should I fight against them? That never made any sense to me, but then again, a lot of things during that war made sense.

Getting back to Jerry Lee Lewis, I saw him in concert and a taping for a later TV show in Nashville at the old Ryman Auditorium and he tore the place up. He was on fire that night. The audience loved this guy and that was the night I also became a Jerry Lee Lewis fan.
RIP, Jerry Lee.

Still unfortunate, as another of our older celebrity generation is gone from our history.
Yep, he was a great musician and performer, no doubt! Sorry to see him go.

Maybe not a great man, but that is true of a lot of our celebrities. And there are certainly many worse examples. Great talent does not necessarily mean great behavior or judgement. Never has, never will.

This brings up a good point that I have been stressing to friends for the last 5 or more years. For those of you that are like me and enjoy going to concerts or watching them on TV like SNL, there are very few really good performers left anymore. Look through the list of people performing in Las Vegas. They are either impersonators or tribute bands. I saw Lionel Richie last year in Vegas at $300 a ticket and an extra $150 for a backstage pass. There are very, very few real performers left in Las Vegas.

I saw Michael Jackson in London and ELO at Wembley. Two of the best concerts ever. Jackson is gone and Lynne is the last original member remaining of ELO.

And now with Jerry Lee Lewis gone, the number of rock ‘n roll singers are getting less.

Whoever it is, I hope they’re proud of themselves for not only taking such a photograph of a sick, dying old man but being mean enough to make it public

Totally disgusting and disrespectful
Well evidently someone took a picture Lewis and whoever is at his bedside. I agree it was in bad taste to publish it.
