Hadn't heard this! Just the other day I was watching a movie from the early 80s (The King of Comedy) where Jerry plays a talk show host kidnapped by stalker Robert DeNiro.
I just read it. The last TV interview he gave , he was the meanest ,grouchiest man I ever saw. There must have been something wrong back then , because that's not the guy I remembered. He sure made me laugh in his younger days !
Rest in peace Jerry. I wasn't a fan of his comedy, but he was a good actor in the movie Applecruncher mentioned. Also admire him for all he did for those afflicted with MD, he touched the hearts of many.
SB, like you I was not a big fan of Jerry's zany comedy antics. But he was VERY good in that movie. The best scene (imo) was when DeNiro shows up at his house and Jerry goes off. This was back when people had more access to celebrities - not necessarily a good thing.
I can remember going to my local movie house as a kid, about 11 y/o, and laughing so hard and loud that I was the only one sitting in my row. Of course I was sitting in the front row. But, the friends I came with would not go near me.
He was a well known comedian in the 50s & 60s. His work with MDA could have made him a great man. But he was a cruel, twisted individual, who let self importance cloud his mind.
His style of comedy was really funny back in that era. I always appreciated him and his partner. Both brought a lot of laughs to the screen. Dean was very funny on TV.
