JK Rowling and Trans debate

I agree. if a man wanted to commit rape, which is easier putting on a dress, fake breasts and make up, or opening the unlocked Ladies' room door. I would feel the same if a woman, dressed as a woman, was in the men's room. But exactly how do address where a Transexual uses the bathroom? And keeping in mind that a Trans transitioning to female totally believes he is a female, but by a cruel biological quirk, he was given male parts. Having persons use the bathroom as how they are dressed seems to cause least problems, for both male/female trans.

I've been in public ladies restrooms when transgenders (to female) were in there. Shrug... So not a big deal.

My only emotion was happiness they felt comfortable using the restroom. No threat was implied or perceived. We literally went about our business, nodded to each other, and continued with our day.

The concept of separate male and female bathrooms is a fairly recent one. Also, it's much cheaper to build large unisex facilities than individual ones. I do realize the fear of women, being in an enclosed room, being vulnerable, and having a male, there at an intimate time. But I do think it is a phobia, and may not be totally justified, especially with a "Trans". I think it's time to abandon large unisex facilities for individual ones.
The ignorance and insensitivity of men is part of the problem. The world of women is far more complex than men's. We need our own separate facilities.

I cannot imagine a rapist cross dressing to gain access to a ladies toilet and can't say I've ever heard it reported.

About ten years ago, while in Mexico I was in a nice restaurant and needed to use the toilet. The arrangement was 5-6 small non-genderized toilet rooms along with a long sink just outside the bathroom area. Very sensible, I thought.

For the record, as a sufferer of IBS I've used men's rooms many times. Never once did a man upbraid me. A boy about 8-10 was in there with his dad. I heard him say, "Dad, there's a lady in there," meaning one of the stalls. His dad replied, "She probably really needed to use the bathroom and couldn't wait on that long line at the ladies' room." That was it. No drama.

That man was exactly right on both counts.
Unfortunately it happens and has happened here, in fact just this last week a man was arrested for doing just that...

Co-incidentally , this has been reported in the media tonight...

These days I don't feel safe going to the ladies' loo alone.

That's a statement I never thought I'd make. It sounds crazy, doesn't it? I'm neither shy nor fearful, but after my experience at a Westminster pub earlier this month, that's how I feel.

Frequented predominantly by civil servants, the Marquis of Granby is near where I work but it could just as easily have been any pub in the country.

It was a Wednesday night and I was attending an event upstairs. Before heading home after a pleasant evening, I went to the ladies' loo, which has two cubicles. I emerged from mine at the same time as the woman next door, who, at about 6ft tall, towered over me.

She wore a skimpy top which made her shoulders seem bigger. And she spoke with a strikingly deep voice. A trans woman. The lavatory was cramped and I had to stand directly behind her while waiting to use the wash basin.

My response to this is "live and let live". And really, what is the percentage of men pretending to be trans attacking women vs. the percentage of actual trans people who have converted from male to female? They are the "freaks"... not trans people. And for the "purists" out there who say no one should be able to transition, maybe walk a mile in their shoes and be glad your brain matches your body. But I know I won't convince any of the die-hard anti-trans advocates. They pop up every time the topic comes around.

How about the right for biological women to be able to compete against each other in sports on a level playing ground.

Many women & girls have worked hard to get where they are. But, when competing against transgender females who are biological male & are inherently stronger than a biological female, they (transgender female) will always out perform them.

How about the girls who won't be getting college scholarships because they are competing against transgender girls in sports?

Caitlyn Jenner doesn't support transgender females in women's sports. Is she wrong about this?

Edit: This thread was in reference to #32 by Seadog on a portion that he edited out of his comments after my response to it. I can't recall the exact wording, but it was about what biological women's right were being violated by transgender females. Just so it is clear why it was posted.

In todays' papers...

A female prisoner today warns of the dangers of putting transgender inmates in women's jails after she was sexually assaulted by a paedophile rapist behind bars.

Laura Goldsmith, 38, revealed how she fell prey to notorious sex offender Karen White in HMP New Hall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

In chilling echoes of the shocking case of transgender double rapist Isla Bryson being placed in an all-female jail in Scotland, Laura told how White was allowed to carry out a campaign of abuse in plain sight after being placed in the jail despite not having surgery and boasted how she was not having hormone treatment.

White was a convicted paedophile and serial sex offender on remand for grievous bodily harm.

White went on to be jailed for life after sexually assaulting two inmates at New Hall.

..and a different story ...

Oli London has come a long way from the 'depressed' influencer who stunned the world in 2018 with the announcement he was identifying as Korean.

At the time, the 'transracial' 33-year-old had spent £64,000 trying look Korean- just over a sixth of the £300,000 worth of 'damaging mutilations' he would put himself through in pursuit of 'validation.'

In the space of a few years, the influencer with millions of followers across TikTok and Instagram went under the knife and had 32 procedures performed on him including having nose and chin surgery and having his cheekbones shaved down.

During that time, Oli's gender, sexuality and racial identity fluctuated wildly from bisexual to transgender to transgendered Korean women - but in 2022, something in him snapped.

He told MailOnline: 'I suddenly realized, the more surgery I have the unhappier I am.

@hollydolly, female prisoners are being assaulted here in the U.S. as well & it's not just a recent thing. Here are three links to different areas of the country in the last three years.

https://nypost.com/2022/04/25/transgender-rikers-inmate-gets-7-years-for-raping-female-prisoner/

https://news.wttw.com/2020/02/19/lawsuit-female-prisoner-says-she-was-raped-transgender-inmate

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/c...umatization-of-female-prisoners-lawsuit-says/

The California article said "Hundreds of men have applied for transfers to women’s prisons, and dozens have already been transferred,” the organization said. “These transfers have resulted in intimidation, s****l harassment, physical assaults, and s****l assaults committed by the men against female inmates.”

Where are the rights of these women?

Managing and discerning true transe*uals from opportunists within the prison system is a problem that needs to be addressed. I'm not an expert in the field and leave it to them. To be fair, se*ual and other violence among both male and female prisoners including (especially?) cisgenders, is neither a recent nor uncommon phenomenon.

The nature of privacy in restrooms has always made them a slightly dicey proposition.

Back in the 90s, I saw a middle-aged man nervously lurking outside the door of a large restaurant's ladies restroom. While it seemed odd, his behavior didn't raise my danger antenna. Then it dawned on me that he might have a daughter in there. I asked him if he did and he said yes.

I offered to watch after his daughter and not enter a stall myself until she was safely back to him. The relief on his face was palpable when I opened the door a couple of minutes later to let his (9-ish year old) daughter out.

Until writing about it today, that incident hasn't crossed my mind since the day it happened. Makes me very glad there are "family restrooms" in many places.
