Judging books by their covers

Never ignore your gut feeling. Not always right, but worth paying attention to.
True, and often we, especially women, ignore it based assumptive judgements society/family have conditioned us into having--- as well as to defer to male authority figures (educators, doctors, clergy).

A man once told me i'd hurt his feelings by not going off alone with him. My response was 'Sorry, but we just met. The bottomline for me is better someone else's feelings than my body. I learned that lesson the hard way!'

Read the book The Gift of Fear. It's for women, who usually are the victims of crime.

It's ALL about trusting your gut.
Absolutely, should be required reading for teens. While it is 'for' women, it was written by a male security specialist (Gavin De Becker) and i think rational men could learn a lot from it too!
While Malcolm Gladwell's book makes several good points about trusting our 'instincts', De Becker's book is more focused, specific.

Oh, If a man has soft, feminine hands it probably means he hasn't done a lick of work.
If he has polished, manicured nails, he is not someone I want to talk to, ever.
Same thing if he wears make-up.

And if he looks like Johnny Depp, and his first name is Edward?
