Jury Acquits Uvalde School Officer

SRO's are charged with many responsiblities. The possibility of dealing with an active shooter event is without a doubt the most serious. I have no idea what information the jury heard regarding those two men, but one might believe that they are scapegoats for a long like of decision makers. The idea that such a situation would go on for 72 minutes is beyond me to understand. Seeing the number of armed officers milling about in the hallway is embarrassing.

If you have never been shot at or faced that possibility then you can't fully understand the fear that it brings. That is exactly what law enforcement is trained to confront. You aren't trained to go part of the way and stop. Seems to me they need a whole new batch of law enforcement and superiors.

I don't know how any of those law enforcement officers can look at themselves in the mirror.

There is no effing way I value my own life over innocent children.

If those officers would have rushed and confronted the gunman immediately very few children would have been killed. Even if a few of the officers were killed, the total fatalites would have been far less.

This is disgusting, shameful and cowardly. The parents and the community should make sure every officer involved is fired from law enforcement permanently and receives real prison time.

In some communities across the country many take a job as a police officer for a paycheck. There priority is the job not just staying safe on the job. As noted up thread somewhere in the chain of command probably did not want an aggressive response or someone was simply afraid to make a hard decision that might affect their career/job.

On one news report, it was brought up that one off the officers said (or his lawyer said) that he was a scapegoat. I didn't follow closely so I don't know why it was stated. But if someone else got there first or was closer to the shooter, maybe acquittal was the right thing to do. When I first saw the news about the shooting, I felt that the officer(s) should be held accountable. But like all "first" reports, not all of the facts are in yet.

It’s the failure of the system as much as it is the individual.

As others have mentioned, many security jobs are filled with an under qualified out of shape older person to simply fill the position and meet the minimum requirements to have a warm body on duty.

It might make more sense to increase the salary enough to attract a fit young person with recent military experience that might actually be able to make a difference in an emergency situation.
