Jury Duty

Back in 1980 my elderly uncle was murdered. His killer was caught and my dad went to the trial every day. The man was found guilty. Anyway, fast forward a couple years and my dad was summoned for jury duty. When he went, the defense attorney was the same one who defended the guy who killed my uncle. So, the attorney saw him, conferred with the judge. The judge called my dads name, and told him he was excused.

Exactly. In the US, we do it the cheapest way & the results speak for themselves.
If we had professional jurors who had to be educated on evidence (as we should), that's the career I would have chosen.
I'll have nothing to do with our pathetic system.
 
I have feeling if I never responded to the jury summons when they came no one would have done much about it. The reason I say that is the people I have spoken with that always ignored them. I went three times but never got picked for the jury.

Something tells me that corruption would eventually find it's way into a system like that, much in the way it has found it's way into professional politicians. Much less likely from random individuals.
