Never served as I was a nurse. From what I hear, today, it doesn't matter, doctors, nurses, police offficers, lawyers, etc all have to answer the call.
My step-daughter still works for our local Sheriff's Dept., I couldn't believe that she was impaneled on a jury for a criminal case.Never served as I was a nurse. From what I hear, today, it doesn't matter, doctors, nurses, police offficers, lawyers, etc all have to answer the call.
Exactly. In the US, we do it the cheapest way & the results speak for themselves. This is exactly how I feel. The jury system is not the most efficient way of trying someone. Instead of having members of the public, most of whom would prefer not to be there, there should be professional jurors. We have magistrates judging minor offences, so why not for more serious crimes?
Yes, Nathan, my neighbor who is a full time fireman was impaneled as well. Everyone gets called in NJ today. My step-daughter still works for our local Sheriff's Dept., I couldn't believe that she was impaneled on a jury for a criminal case.
Something tells me that corruption would eventually find it's way into a system like that, much in the way it has found it's way into professional politicians. Much less likely from random individuals.Exactly. In the US, we do it the cheapest way & the results speak for themselves.
If we had professional jurors who had to be educated on evidence (as we should), that's the career I would have chosen.
I'll have nothing to do with our pathetic system.
