Just a few kind words are so nice!

I worked my skinny little tail off today in a very large house. The clients had turned their furnace on for the first time this season so there was a heavy coat of dust on everything and a gazillion dust bunnies covering the hardwood floors. It was a long and hard day, believe me.

When I got home there was a Facebook message to me from the client. She thanked me for bringing peace and calm to her life and helping to preserve her sanity.

What a nice thing to do. Makes it worth it, KWIM? It's so nice to be appreciated.

That was nice. Things like this really do matter.

Last night at work all I did was answer the phone (because I knew our PM supervisor was doing something else) and on the other end of the line was some jerk being nasty for no reason at all. And yes, it made me feel bad. Next time I won't answer the phone.

That's great GeorgiaX, it definitely make us feel good, I had some nice comments too when I was working from management and coworkers alike. If somebody in a grocery store is particularly helpful and courteous, I'll sometimes call the store and give them a compliment via the supervisor/manager.

Kitties, there's plenty of nasty to go around for sure, good when it balances out with the nice.

Hateful people are more to be pitied than censured. I try really hard to feel sorry for someone who's being nasty or unkind and tell myself that they've got something awful happening in their lives and it's not me they're angry with. *Sometimes* it works:)

""Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." ~ Mother Teresa Thanks for sharing with us, by doing so we also get to experience the echo. :)

This is true. They are in pain for some reason(s). Still challenging to be nice to them.

Maybe that ghastly woman Mother T should have practised what she preached!

There seem to be some people who are just out and out nasty. I'm sorry that you had to deal with one of those.

Why do you have that opinion of Mother Theresa? I'm just curious because I thought she was doing good work with the poor.

That is what a lot of people thought. However I believe the reality was not like that at all. I met someone many years ago who had worked with the woman and their opinion of her was not great. Apparently she would withhold painkillers from people in extremis, because suffering was good for the soul!

That was a lovely response to your hard work Georgia. What a nice lady and I wonder if she realizes how much it made your day. A lesson for me too that's for sure. Never hesitate to lift up someone else right?

Well that last part of your comment, if true, would greatly diminish my opinion of her as well. Suffering for sufferings sake is ridiculous. And the infliction of suffering by withholding medications is worse than ridiculous.

Pretty scathing article by the way. I would have been happier though with it, if the author had included links to back up the 'accusations'. Would give it more credibility.

That's really nice Georgia.. It always feels good to get praise and thanks for hard work.. even if we are being paid to do it. I know that when I am shown appreciation for what I do.. and complemented, it makes me want to work all the harder.

Same here. Had a boss once who was very big on giving frequent compliments. I worked harder for him that any other boss.

Too bad more bosses don't realize that. I've worked for all kinds.. I've had great bosses.. and I've had some real Aholes. I always tried to get away with more with the latter... just to stick it to them.

My last boss in the US was a total a**hole. He even told us that he believed almost every employee would do as little as possible if they could get away with it. Worst boss ever. But I stayed for 5 years because I had good co-workers and I did like the work itself.

A nice/kind/complimentary word is great to get today, especially when so many don't do it. When I run into someone who was born/raised in a foreign country and speak good enough English that I can understand, I definitely compliment them on it. Some of these people even get shocked when I do that.

Thing is, today when a manager gives a compliment to a co-worker, that co-worker would rather get a money raise than the compliment.......but BOTH are very nice!

I remember a job I had as a Stockroom Supervisor, years ago, I completely cleaned up and reorganized the Stockroom. My supervisor, the Purchasing Manager, not only told me "looks really nice", but when my 90-day Review came up, he gave me a dollar raise. I had never got a raise like that before. So, not only did I get the compliment, I got a nice raise to boot!
