I've never understood that part of "forumdom"... it's always been fun for me to see where threads go. Otherwise, it's never mattered if I ask about a chicken recipe and end up talking about Timbucktu's trans-Saharan caravan route. It's normal for forums... and educational.

I noticed that many dogs are named Hoover, presumably because they're always 'vacuuming'...

Speaking of vacuuming. When I was in junior high, some friends and I figured out that if you mouthed "vacuum" it looked a lot like "f-you." From then until we graduated HS, whenever we wanted to say F-U about or to someone (incredibly rude back then), we'd say something like, "Oh he can just go vacuum" to each other. Anyone who overheard us, particularly a teacher, was undoubtedly mystified by the comment.

If a poster opens a thread for discussion, that being the operative word, I feel it is okay to go wherever with that discussion.

However, if the OP is asking a specific question and looking for an answer or opinions then one should stay with the subject and reply accordingly.

Not necessary... there was no online spat.. and for that reason I'm not naming the poster involved...or the thread.... .. I have no wish to cause unecessary upset to that poster

It's done they sent me the PM. I replied explaining a few things to them ..they apologised...no need for anything more....however I did think that perhaps some people weren't aware of the netiquette of this forum.. hence the posting of this thread
