Just came across Butter on a Stick

Yes, this was once served at the Texas State Fair. Don't know if it still is. They have a contest here every year. All kinds of wierd things fried or available at the fair. I have not been to the fair in 40 years but I have a friend who goes just to try all the things they come up with.

My favorite was always the Fletchers corn dog.

Yes, it was served at the Texas State Fair. I am with Blessed, my favorite was the corn dog too, with maybe a funnel cake.
I tell you something.. Corn Dogs were never a thing here and I grew up reading American comics which always mentioned corn dogs, and I wished that I could have one..

About a decade ago Corn dogs were introduced here.. and I was excited to try one.. I don't know if something went missing in the American/ mother country translation.. but OMG what a disappointment.. :D

May have lost something in the translation. It has to have mustard on it! :D

I have heard of it but I think it mostly made at state fairs!

Holly Dolly corn dogs are very good, maybe it was the brand you bought. I know here in USA we (us) prefer Bryan or the ones at fairs. We eat ours with mustard and catsup. We tried off brands and they were not as good!

They must be made with a good quality beef hot dog. The batter is a little like a sweet corn bread. The ones made at the fair back in the day were made right before your eyes. Hot dog on the stick, dipped in the batter and put into a deep fat fryer. Oddly enough they were never greasy. Here it would be the frenchs yellow mustard.

Fair food is a thing unto itself.

With the exception of Corn Dogs (which I'm not fond of), and the Bloomin' Onion, most of this stuff is only eaten at fairs once or just a few times a year.

Fairs come up with lots of weird stuff like Butter on a Stick, Deep Fried Candy Bars and who knows what else. If it can be fried, I think anything's game. These things are not eaten regularly.
