Just had a temporary crown come off!

The tech made a new impression for the temp crown, I hope that gets passed on to the lab that's making the permanent crown.
We all know how important it is to make good impression. I hope this tech made one for you.

Nathan, I understand and empathize. I had very extensive dental work done when I was 20 because my upper teeth were very soft and weak. My mother found a good dentist who didn't tooth shame me for something that wasn't my fault. He did a procedure called a roundhouse that amazed a couple of young dentists I subsequently went to. It was caps on remaining sturdy with a bridge where pulled teeth had been. It was all in one piece and had a gold backing. I knew it wouldn't last forever but it started to weaken and came loose about 20 years later at the most inopportune time...when I had to talk for most of the day while interviewing patients.

The dentist that had done it had died of cancer and his wife who called herself a dentist wound up being a quack. When I finally found a good dentist, he and I agreed that trying to fix it would be a waste of time and that I should get a full upper denture instead. Over the years I've had every dental procedure I was scared of during my years of dental phobia (extractions, periodontal work, root canals and a couple of crowns. Modern dentistry made each one a lot less painful than I anticipated. I hope your dental work is painless and stress free from here on out.

I've never had a permanent crown dislodge but have had that problem with temporaries. I try to eat mostly soft foods when wearing a temporary and avoid chewing with that side of my mouth.

Like many here, I've had some not-so-good dental experiences so when I find a good dentist who also understands my fears, I remain loyal.

I take tooth pain very seriously - Just had a temporary crown come off!
Looking back at all my root canals, caps, etc. I think I would have been better off pulling the teeth when they first went bad and replacing with implants.

I know the implants are expensive, but the one I have is very permanent and problem free. And if I added up all the dental bills for root canals, reroot canals, etc. I don't think the actual cost would have been more.

Dentists have made a lot of money trying to preserve my bad teeth over the years, it just staved off the inevitable, with pain.

I had the back two molars pulled on my lower jaw, don't really seem to miss those at all.

I take tooth pain very seriously, so having a crown come off puts my anxiety through the roof! I just had the procedure yesterday, the dentist prepped the tooth, took impressions and had an assistant fit and install the temporary. All good...until this afternoon, started snacking on corn chips, felt something really strange in my mouth- I knew the temp crown had come off. Drove to the dentist rolling code, wife called in notifying the staff. The dental assistant reinstalled the crown, using "a little stronger" adhesive. I'm good now, got back home in time for cocktail hour. I think I'll just drink my meals until the permanent crown is in place! :eek:o_O:unsure::whistle:
Worse case for me last week. I needed to have a permanent crown removed by the dentist, then went to the endodontist to have a root canal! I now have on a temporary crown and taking antibiotics to clear up the infection, before I go back to the dentist for another permanent crown in a week or two.

I’ve also had temporary crown incidents. I got one, and was trying to be really careful with it. It came off in a restaurant while I was eating an egg sandwich! It wasn’t like I was chewing on gumdrops. Another time a temporary came off while I was brushing my teeth, and outraced my pursuit of it down the sink drain. Had to get out the monkey wrench, disconnect the drain pipe, and fortunately was able to retrieve the temporary from the drain elbow.

On emergency visits to the dentist thereafter, the dentist was apologetic and did use a stronger glue to reattach the temps…but I had Stephen King-type nightmares following about my teeth just popping off and out of my mouth! 🙀
