Just my luck...

Well, less than one week settled here in the North Carolina mountains and I have blown out my knee. I took a stumble down the outside steps of the RV on Tuesday and twisted my knee something fierce. The Spousal Equivalent was, unfortunately, out of state for the week so I had to get myself into my car and get to the emergency clinic (thank goodness, it was my left knee so I could drive with my right leg). Nothing broken but could be some tears in the meniscus or ligament; they can't do an MRI until the internal swelling goes down. In the meantime, it's a leg brace and a cane for me. I had some serious hiking scheduled, too.....dammit. It's hell getting old. The mountain trails and the waterfalls are beckoning, the weather is great and what am I doing? Moaning and groaning.

Oooooh! That must hurt something awful! Sorry.

The knee is one of the most complicated joints and, more often than not, the one most usually hurt.

Hope nothing broke in there Jujube.

Wow...jujube, I'm sorry to hear this...and for you to be alone when it happened... last year I fell out in the yard when I accidentally stepped into a hole, it can happen in the blink of an eye....take care and I hope you mend soon.

Sorry Jube, feel better soon. Must be something about hiking in NC, I believe it was Medoc Mountain State Park in NC where my hiking days ended. Sill I miss hiking the many trails around various state parks in NC.

Both my knees, and both my wife's wore out due to arthritis, simply wore out. I went through arthroscopic surgery which is a small incision and a scope with a trimmer to smooth the cartilage. That just postponed the replacement for a couple of years. I didn't take any stumbles or twists, so perhaps you will have better luck. I spent my 70th birthday in the hospital getting the first replacement, the second was a few years later.

Other problems have arisen since, so now I put in a lot of time in the recliner. Good luck with it.

Wishing you the best darlin'...I have other pains here and there, but knees and back are the absolute worst. Wishing you a speedy recovery:love_heart:

Jujube, oh so sorry about the injured knee. I had a torn miniscus a couple yrs. ago and it was painful for sure.
Hopefully you will be on the mend soon.
take good care,

I'm so sorry to hear this, doll. It must be a real pain just when the weather gets nice. I fell off my sandals last summer ( the strap had loosened and was no longer effective) and I twisted my knee and ankle badly. I was so mad. I understand how you feel. Get lots of rest, and begin to do some yoga knee streches as soon as you can. Hugs.

Oh OUCH. Take care of yourself, follow Dr's orders and hopefully you'll be hitting the trails before long. Good luck with your recovery.

Yay! I went to the orthopedist today and it turns out to be a minor MCL tear, which is one of the best (if there's anything that qualifies as best....) injuries to a knee for speedy recovery. Was instructed to wear my brace for two more weeks, do gentle range-of-motion exercise and continued with the icing/heat regimen. He says I should be good as new inside of a month.

Unfortunately, that was my "good" knee. Wouldn't ya know it?

So sorry, I know how it feels.I tore my meniscus a few years ago when I dislocated my knee. I went for physical therapy several times, then had expensive injections in the knee joint. That didn't help at all. I still have stiffness and soreness in the knee area. I do better without the brace and just watch how I move. I wish you a quick recovery so you can get back to your hiking.
