Just Repeating what I said earlier

I'm not one of the real old timers on SF but I've been around a few years. Nowadays I find when someone posts a new (to them) question for the general membership, and it's something that has already been asked many times; I simply don't feel like participating in the discussion. It's boring to reprise what I've already said. Anyone else feel that way?

Llynn, you’ve been along longer than I. Sometimes I answer, other times not. I’m content to read what others have said. Opinions can change over the years. If it’s an older post that I’ve answered, it’s interesting to read what I wrote. Hmm, is that what I was thinking back then?

you've been here 6 years now Llynn so I understand how you feel..

I've been here almost 13 years.. and I still don't mind giving help or advice to newbies... What I do mind is the same questions being asked over and over again..I wish people would do a search first to see if there's an existing thread on the topic before starting a new one.. and see if it's still relevant

Yes. I just skip over it.

Well, not reading a post you're not interested in is easier than actually reading it, and provides a full proof resolution. :)

And of course, opinions change, new information becomes available, etc. As oldsters, there are some age-old questions we are curious about (you know, that being unalive thing, for example) and I think if someone wants to discuss it, then why not.

The thing is - a thread on a topic might be 15 years old, and might have a lot of pages. Is it really realistic to expect someone to search it out, read all the posts, and only then to respond? Not really, imo.

I suppose at our age, many things get repeated, but I'd like to think I'm a work in progress, so not opposed to learning something new. Even if it's a repeat topic, but it's an area of interest, I will check it out. If it seems like a "Been there, done that" discussion, then I just move on. If a new twist or perspective comes to light, then I may offer my thoughts on the matter.

As we all know, many OP topics morph into something else altogether, so in many cases, the discussion is like trying to nail Jello to a tree. It just don't stay where it started.
