Just saw a new strategy from a squirrel

I have a feeder out with suet on it for the woodpeckers. I have the torpedo baffle on it so
they can't climb or jump onto it. The squirrel knows there is seed up there and has tried several times
to climb, or go to a tree and compute his jump and then given up.
This morning I see it out there jumping and doing his twirls in the air as they do, watching his antics I see
him jump up and do a triple spin kick the pole making loose pieces of the suet fall to the ground!
Now I sat amazed having to really appreciate how he came to figure that out....for a minute.
Then I realize with rain coming that will loosen the brick I need now to purchase suet cages!
It's never ending with these creatures.

Yes, squirrels are smart, bold, innovative vermin who can destroy your home in no time. They can chew into your electrical system and start a fire, and/or create all manner of disaster.

Have you thought about putting some Hot Sauce on the suet? Squirrels won't touch food with pepper/chili/etc. Or that's what I've read, haven't tried that yet myself.

I laughed a little when the squirrels went up and down for a ride on the Slinkies I put on the pole. They were perplexed, but soon got the hang of climbing the rings, the dastardly furlumps.

I have had squirrels sit up and defy me when I stand on the porch and crack the buggy whip against the hand rail, in close proximity to the bird feeder.

The little criminals are not only very smart, they are fairly fearless.

I quietly say I have not seen one squirrel to-date, at the bird feeder. I think their predators have done severe damage to their population.

It would be great to see a picture of the set-up you made with the slinkies.:)
