Keep saving the boxes or not?

I’m know I’m not the only one here who was taught to save things that “might come in handy” or “keep the box, you might need it when you move”….BUT…..I have a fairly generous sized closet for a 1 BR Apt, but I’m tired of sharing it with the boxes from the printer, the humidifier, toaster, microwave, empty shoe boxes etc. I don’t usually keep dirty beat up shipping cartons tho..
Do I surrender space now for a ‘free” moving box later?
Am I going to wish I had one or all the minute after the trash truck drives away with them? Keep them for my ‘estate’ to get rid of?
Or am I finally going to rebel, give up one more 1940s habit & at least get them gone & recycle them?
What do you with your boxes?

I keep a few and try to store them inside of each other to save room.

I also save small amounts of bubble wrap and other packing materials.

Set a limit that makes sense for you and your situation.

My limit for most repurposed containers is 6.

If you mess up another nice container is sure to come into your life!

i recycle as much cardboard as possible. i kept a tv box for some time..not sure why. then i broke
it down and hauled it and other board stuff to the recycle bins.

as much cardboard as is used now for all this 'shipping' of 'stuff' makes me sick. its mostly dumped
into the trash instead of recycling it. we are running out of trees to make boxes from.
imo there should be a massive recycle push but im from the 60's so what do i know.

I know I have kept (and still have boxes) because I usually don't feel settled and want to move. I want to move from this apartment. If I do ever move, I can get boxes from work.

There is a vintage store in town that sells online. If I have any small boxes and packing material, I take it to them. They gladly accept them.

If you don't think you will move soon and could get access to boxes if you do, put them in recycling.

On a side note I watch a dumpster diving channel that goes to apartments and apparently they are in a college town. They have been going through the dumpsters at the college and local apartments and the waste is insane.

I only save a box if it is special for an item that I might conceivably want to ship (so if my response to it breaking would be to throw it away, I don't save the box). I was glad I'd kept the packaging for my microscopes because it was useful when I sold them. But I don't remember getting any use out of any other saved box.

I don't have a problem with room to keep them, so I keep them. Good for packing things for charities or things I want stored away, I also give some to my neighbor, he uses them on the floor of his garage when he changes the oil in his car. Swear that garage floor is cleaner than some in my house.

Thanks, all! Bonnie, that’s almost a direct quote from what my DD says about things, “It will get figured out” and she’s usually right. FuzzyBuddy, what you said is exactly my “Catch 22” situation.

I keep the boxes for computers, electronic equipment, etc. and store the instructions and warranty info in them. It is generally pointless, I know! Just today, I took all my Amazon boxes and Chewy boxes, broke them down, and put them over woody weeds growing beneath my shrubs. Per Alexa, USA cardboard is generally great for mulch (no bad resin glues, etc.) These pernicious weeds won't be stopped by normal weed cloth. I'm hoping this works!

I saved the boxes that various items came in just in case I had to send them back. So far nothing has needed repairs and most items are past their warranty period anyway. They are in my storage locker and I had planned on going down there and cleaning it out anyway before this. I say get rid of them unless you are still under your warranty period. After that get rid of them.

I save boxes I might use to mail stuff in. I only keep real sturdy ones, and, to save closet space, I break them down so they're flat.
Yup

I have a select few for shipping things
but they are broke down and stored in a slot in the shed.

I've saved the box the TV came in, and the styro.
For moving the 55" TV, and/or sending it back.....

Otherwise, the exacto knife makes quick work for recycle
