Back before vehicles had the automatic locking doors I hiked down the street and waited by the corner with the stop sign.
I knew that they would have to stop for it on the way home. And I knew that my wife would be busy talking to my daughter and they wouldn’t be paying attention to much of anything.
When she stopped I ran over and jumped in the back seat of the car.
Not sure if they both let out a scream,
I told them that was how easily someone could jump in their car if they leave the doors unlocked.
That might have been why she had the doors locked the day she had to slow down in front of Kmart to let people walk across.
She told me that the guy who grabbed the locked door handle on the passenger side of the truck had dirty long yellow hair and wore a filthy looking sweater.
In a way I felt bad about having to scare them to drive home how important it was to lock the doors but maybe that is what saved her from having her purse snatched or even worse.
Modern vehicles have automatic locking doors and we are all better off for it.
