Yeo began the portrait when Charles was still Prince of Wales, with the first sitting at Highgrove in June 2021. Jonathan Yeo's Artistic License has not expired. Let it be.

Jonathan Yeo's signature style is to place greater emphasis on capturing the sitter's character and essence

they were 'trippin' when this was being done !!!!
It's certainly different than any other portrait hanging in Buckingham Palace...not that I've seen them all but I've seen many.
And it's not just Red paint. There's a LOT of Hot Pink in there too! Not exactly a manly color.

Also his medals are a bit messy looking. The butterfly has more clarity. You can hardly tell what the medals are. Blending them a little would have been nice but he overdid it in my opinion. The designer medal craftsman must be so disappointed.

It doesn't help that he's 8 feet tall. That's a huge space of Hot Pink and Red on the Palace walls. He'll certainly get noticed.

Am I the only one who sees
Red running from his nose,
over his lips,
and down his chin?
What's that about?!

I do like that his facial expression emits kindness and
without all the hot pink/red I think it's a very good painting.

I think the artist did a good job with his head and hands... totally realistic but not really giving the thought that either is actually connected to his body... strange. But why all the 🟥🔴 ? Why not just paint a nice regular portrait of him? And is that.... a butterfly?! Maybe I'm just lousy at interpreting art, but this doesn't seem (to me) to be fitting for a King's official portrait. I should say that the first time I saw this, I didn't see red, but pink... and thought "why?!" But it was on my laptop, so I assumed it probably wasn't pink.

It's totally dumb. Red background and red uniform. Who hired that idiot painter? I like the color red, but there is way much of it. Make the background a different color. I'd be insulted if someone painted me that way. It would be obvious to me that he was making fun of me.

I voted mixed feelings. It's very well done (who am I to criticize, I don't have artistic talent), it is very unusual with the coloring. But I say, why not.

I think that @Meanderer is correct, and this portrait will immortalize the king. This is a very strange portrait, with what looks looks like blood on his face and his hands. One Monarch butterfly….. what does that signify ?
Someone posted it as a mirror image, and that has something awful looking in between the two images. I wonder what the British people think of this portrait ?

That is very perceptive of you to see that! I think it's Harvey the rabbit.

I like it. In fact, I pretty much love it. I'd make a slight tweak here or there, but then that's why I'm not the artist and an actual artist was. :D

Well, I love it. I find it bizarre people would create a mirror image and then act as though what is seen is anything other than coincidence. Pareidolia anyone?
