Ladies (and gents?) as a child did you play with dolls?

I truly loved my dolls. My parents were not big toy buyers so I only had a few but each one was precious. Every Christmas I would hope for a doll and any present that wasn't a doll was a big disappointment. Like Deya I had a sock monkey, a black doll, and a teddy bear, too!

One doll only had one arm and the other had no hair, all due to my brothers who were like @C50 ;) .

I played with them all the time: washed their clothes, dried them on a tiny line, gave them baths, dressed them, sang to them, played school with them, played Sunday School with them using my collection of church bulletins, played house, played store with them, took them for walks in the carriage and saved them from repeated kidnappings by the brothers.

At night I would put them all in my old baby carriage, so that I could wheel them out in a hurry in case of fire.

I played with them until I was thirteen when I came home and found my mother burning most of them in the bin. I can still see that sock monkey's leg sticking out.

Yes I played with my dolls. I had three and they had nice clothes. One named Gloria, one Betsy and the third was dressed as a nurse so was just called nurse. My parents brought her to me when I was six and in hospital with a broken leg, ran into a tree while coasting with my older brothers. I loved my dolls and also had a doll carriage and took them for walks around our yard in summer.

I had dolls but I liked the paper dolls the best. I liked dressing them and playing scenarios with stories I made up.
Ooh, paper dolls! Those were the "fashion dolls" of my times. Barbies came too late for me, but I did love my paper dolls.

In addition to the clothes in the book, we would also draw clothes for them and decorate them. We'd call it "playing Fashion Designer".

I loved my Barbie dolls... had the pink case and lots of clothes for them. My favorite was attacked by my little sister... got ahold of a pen and put ink all over my Barbie's face so she could "wear makeup." I still tease my sister about it to this day... but I haven't forgotten.
I had the pink case, with the tiny hangers, and all my beloved Barbies stuffed in it. Did you have the original Barbie Dream house with the pull string elevator, or the camper?

When my daughter was little, and went through a very short Barbie phase, I was happy to play Barbies with her. The Barbie high stepper horse was so cool!

I had baby dolls til I was older. Then I went on a Barbie kick til mom gave my Barbies to my aunt without my permission.

She decided I was too old to play with them. I hated her for that. Never forgave her for it.

Later in life I started collecting then some things happened and my collection got screwed up and I had to unbox them all.

I ended up selling them to pay bills and then Barbies got too expensive and I had no way to showcase them in my small apartments.

Now I have 2 stuffed animals.
I'm sorry you lost your Barbies. Both times. :(

I have a few of the Dia de los Muertos Barbies and a couple others to make clothes for. Love them.

I think I was about eight or nine when I hanged one of my older sister's dolls in her closet. I put a sock over the doll's head and had tied a hangman's knot in the rope. I can still remember my sister screaming, "MAAAAMAAAAH!" after she opened her closet door and discovered her favorite doll dangling from the clothing rod like some poor condemned criminal. When confronted by my mother and sister, I exclaimed with a smirk on my face that the doll had had a fair trial. (No, I did not grow up and become a serial killer.)

My daughter in law's grandmother collected Barbies. When she passed away there were more than a hundred of them that they had to do something with. Most sold on Ebay, some for a lot of money.

I remember the first time I saw a Barbie. One of my cousins had one. A doll with boobs?
I had a growing up skipper that when you cranked her arm around she grew taller and grew boobs. my brother thought that was hysterical. he'd crank her arm and just laugh himself silly.

Every penny counted. When Barbies were in fashion, I got a knock off. None of dolls or their clothes were the originals. I know I had baby dolls, though can’t remember anything special

One doll I remember was prior to Barbies. She was at least twice the height. Had platinum blonde hair. She was stored in the basement. The last time I came across her, her eyes had glassed over. A bit of the mildew odour too. It was like the walking dead. She then went away forever.

Absolutely NO!!!!!!!! Where I grew up that would have earned a boy a long series of black eyes and the life-long nickname "Sissy". Actually I think a boy seen playing with doll babies would have had to move out of the County.

No kidding?! Barbie came after I was cut off from playing dolls, but I would see Barbie while babysitting, never that though. LOL

I had all kinds of dolls. When very young, I had soft dolls like rag dolls and baby dolls. Then I was given a lot of paper dolls that you cut out of a book. Then came Barbie and I had a lot of Barbies until I was 11 when I stopped playing with dolls.
