Ladies. What does your purse weigh?

For a laugh I challenged my Wife to weigh her purse, including her I phone. It weighed in at 5.9 pounds in total. That weight included her car keys, wallet, and other so called "essentials ". She challenged me to weigh my normal pocket items, which include car and house keys, I phone, and a thin card case with a debit card, Ontario Driver's License, and Ontario Health Card. Total weight was 1.7 pounds.

So what does your purse weigh? JimB.

Don't know what it weighs, but its very small, about 5X7 inches, has a checkbook, small billfold for cash, keys (1 house, 1 car) and an inhaler. That's about all I can get in it.
Ditto. I don’t carry a big purse. When I do carry one, which is rare, I have one small black shoulder 5 x 7 zipped pocket book and one white one. I carry only things that are absolutely necessary. Personal products are left in the car.

So what’s your opinion( conclusion) on this?

With keys, phone, sunglasses and reading glasses with cases, a little hard candy, some change, and a few other things: 2 lbs, 10 oz. I carry a small purse and don't tote a lot of stuff around.

Interesting question.

My motivation was a local Toronto TV news story about how high school students were complaining about the weight of their back packs that included a laptop computer and other "essentials ". JimB.

Mine weighs 0 unless you count my phone and phone case.
This is exactly what I have. My daughter bought it for me.

In the zippered pocket I have my drivers license, 4 cards, a receipt and a couple of folded bills.
A stretchy strap holds the bills in place and expands a tad for more.

I clip my keys to the strap which often hangs on my wrist when I carry a bag of groceries etc
One of my cards is a "Blocking Card" to protect my Credit Card and Driver's license Info.

When I used to carry a purse I could never find anything in it.

Mine, less than 4 lbs., with iPhone and keys the 'heavy' items in it.

I used to carry those heavy shoulder bags with so much stuff during my working years. Not anymore thank goodness.

In finding the right woman, maybe the weight of her purse should be a consideration. Is it filled with money? Coins or paper? Guys need o know this stuff.

Indeed it might in a variety of ways. When i was just out of VISTA i still hungout with my ex co workers. One of my friends was teaching newbies self defense. One of things he pointed out was that a heavy purse can be swung in self defense. Then there's things in them that can be useful that way too, which can be moved to a pocket or your palm if instincts suggest you should.

Keys, pens and nail files can all cause sufficient injury if applied to soft tissue areas to give you time to run (screaming). Travel sizes of both hair spray which more females used in those days, and colognes can temporarily impact vision of an assailant again buying you time.

Honestly, I've no idea but due to size these days, much lighter.

Unfortunately, can't even weigh ourselves just now as the barely one year old scale in bathroom has gone boink!

Daughter replaced the battery yesterday, I got on today and found out I'm about 35lbs. Definitely, gone major defective...

But, can't return as it's been a year and not worth it as it'd been on special about £4. I guess it's time to invest in a new one.

Sorry can only say it's much lighter for handbag now than before. Kids used to say that Mum had everything but the kitchen sink in her old bag...

I spent a long, long, long time in millions of stores looking for just the right purse. Apparently, the right purse is a myth. I used to tease my ex about the tonnage in her purse. During a trip, the car broke down, and I didn't have any tools to fix it. My ex was smiling, she said she had tools in her purse, and after all that teasing. She pulled out this tiny tool kit. The screwdriver was an inch long. Ants could have used those tools. I was supposed to fix the car with that. Now, I was never to tease her again about how much stuff she carried in her purse. Yeah, right.

Ladies. What does your purse weigh?

I think for 'some' ladies, the question should be.....

"What size wheelbarrow do you use?" 😊

My current going shopping purse weighs about 3lbs, when I'm just taking DD to work i only take my cash wallet which has my drivers license in it, well under a pound. i do keep lip balm, tissues, cough drops and aspirin in my car.

You might have noticed a lot us here have lighter ones than your wife. For each of us who was a Mom a heavier purse likely began when oldest child (or with my twins children) were walking, but now we mostly equip our purses to suit our needs.

But we have to go back further to grasp the reason some of us started carrying preparedness type purses. For me, it in part it begins with my father's advice that it was always better to be prepared for potential problem and not need the items or plan, than to need them and not have them.

It is not just from menarche to menopause women need to be prepared for the onset of a natural bodily function that could be embarrassing. If she's lucky enough to have learned about it in advance she'll have to carry supplies around from some time before till she can tell if she's one of the lucky ones who flow comes like clockwork (more than you imagine are irregular). Oh and possibly again if she has a long peri-menopause with a lot irregularity.

Then there's the fact that women of our age cohort were the ones with primary child care duties, not sole responsibility but more often the day to day physical care. We had to be prepared to cope with runny noses, minor cuts, scrapes that curious kids get into as well coughs.

Also over the years i've observed many men in long term relationships storing their cigarettes, lighters, gum, cough drops in the partner's purse, which they still made fun of in public.
