Nope it's not a disease it's an Italian Truffle (finding) dog – seriously. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagotto_Romagnolo

Saw a woman with one recently and mistook it for a Labradoodle, much to her annoyance, but their coat is finer with smaller curls. A lovely dog but at $2000 for a desexed one it's out of my reach

I'd rethink that Murph, have you seen the price of truffles?? Might be worth taking out a loan for one. Of course you'd have to be sure there were truffles around the neighbourhood.

Some couple in Tassie are/were trying to start up a biz growing truffles on their bit of land and selling them. Saw it on Landline or similar. Can't recall what they used to find them with though. Some in Europe use pigs, but I'd go with the dog I think.
Kinda cute but I can't see why other breeds couldn't be trained to sniff them out.

.

Never eaten truffles, couldn't afford to eat where they use them. Anyone else?

I have never tried them either Di, i believe they have a taste all of their own and they do enhance a lot of dishes, there are quite a few breeds that get truffles out. They cost $2.500.00 a kilo

Never heard of a dog finding them, but pigs have a snout made to find them.
