Landlines.....

That's a good question. I just got a notice from my cell provider (I rarely use it, emergencies only) that my particular phone will be obsolete by years end and I'll have to upgrade. I don't know if that means an upgraded flip phone or something more. I've decided to go with Consumer Cellular however. They seem cheap. The provider I have had has been good and cheap, about 26-27 dollars a month with very little in increases but it looks like upgrading will cost. So I'm switching.

Check with T-Mobile. I've been with them several years and have had no problems. I have a phone only (no data) plan with them and pay $20 per month.

Have CC and its only 3G. I still have about 6 months before they switch to 5G. I ordered a new phone from them this week and will switch. Cost will still be around $28.00 a month. Also I applied for a free cell phone for seniors this week. All yo have to do is send a confirmation of income. It will be a smart phone with free talk and text. Google and see if its offered in your state. I have a low income so I qualified. Probably will not apply to most of you.

I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. It's the same as a small computer in your hand or pocket. Some areas around here are 5G & that makes my phone super fast. I can use it for GPS to my display on my 2018 Durango.

Thousands of pictures, & also something great is the calendar. I go to a Dr's office & they give me a time & date. I put it on the phone. Go to another one & I can look it up, so I don't have 2 appointments on the same day.

I have the full bible on it, so in church, I can easily find the chapter & verse. I can also look up the medicine on WebMD, Mayo clinic, or health problems.

I used to get robocalls, but I've blocked them now, only maybe once a month.

It backs its self up to Verison cloud every evening. So if I change phones all I do is download everything from Verison cloud to the new phone & it's working just like the old one. I have my charge right next to where I sleep so It gets charged while I sleep.

It also has a password or series of numbers to get into my phone. I use my old clock number when working easy to remember. If it's stolen all I do is go to a Verison dealer & they shut down that phone remotely It is nothing but a doorstop then. They give me something different. I get all this for $75.?? a month.

Yeah, I tried it looking for myself. It just showed a very old landline number and no cell. I have had my cell phone number about 20 years. It listed a whole bunch of numbers for my wife, all wrong, mostly old numbers but some just completely wrong. Did not have her current cell number, which she has also had for years. It also showed a bunch of email addresses for us, none current or useful...

I also see that I died in 2015...

Classic problems with the online things.
Have you checked lately, Rob? Are you sure you're not dead? :) After all -- it must be true since you read it on the web! :(

Here in Canada if you use Ma Bell you are forced to pay for a landline whether you have a landline phone or not. Reason they give is that your internet is attached to your phone line. It's only $15 bucks a month, but still grrrr.

What makes it worse is my name is in the phone book and I do not have a phone for that number. And if I do not want a phone listing then they will charge another $4 a month for me to be incognito.

The last thing I want is my cell phone number being searchable.

We have a landline because it’s part of internet/tv package. I’m trying to wean DH off giving out that number. There may come a day that we want to get rid of it. We actually considered it but it would take forever to track back who uses that number to contact us. It’s easier to pay the $10/month for our landline.

As for my cellphone, if it rings I just answer it from my wrist. Or hang up, if it’s an unknown number.
