I love public transportation and have been riding it for much of my life. I consider anywhere I can get to on public transportation in the San Francisco bay area local.
The last time I used it was Nov 3, 2025 when I took BART from the station about 2 miles from my house up to San Francisco for a concert at a club. It's so nice not to have to try to find parking in San Francisco and one can read, listen to music or whatever on the train. BART charges those 65 and over 35% of the normal fare so it cost me just over $6 round trip plus a $3 parking fee at the BART station near my house.
I rarely take public transportation just within San Jose but I have done it sometimes.
I started taking public transit by myself when I was 8 and took a bus from a day care (my folks were both working at the time) to downtown Santa Rosa for a typing class.
I've also taken CALTrain (the commuter railroad that goes from Gilroy (south of San Jose) to San Francisco for two jobs when I lived down in silicon valley and worked in the city (the local name for San Francisco even though there are cities up and down the peninsula and in silicon valley.
When my wife and I travel we often take public transportation to get around our destination cities. My favorite place for transit is London which has the Tube which is wonderful and some great busses as well. In addition it's easy to get places outside of the city via the train. The last time I was there in 2019 I rode all around the city for concerts, museums and other things.
