The other evening our phone rang and CID showed it was a number unknown to us
(845) 445-2388

With an Arab sounding name attached to it. So, I ignored the call. Later , just for the heck of it, I checked voice mail and I got one from this call. The just of the call (beginning of robomessage cut off) was that we had 4 serious charges against us and we were to call the above number back immediately to get further direction and information. Yep. I will get right on that.
Out of curiosity I Googled the number and there were several pages of scam alerts related to this number. Some indicating the same message, others with the usual IRS warnings etc.

They are never ending here in Australia ...I had one yesterday from someone claiming to be from china ,telling some rich relative of mine died and left me a heap,of cash

More like a heap of lies

Marie, I have gotten the same kind of call. I know I'm not in any trouble and didn't do anything so, of course, didn't take it seriously.

As long as technology exists, these types of things will too. Sad but if there's an easy buck to be made, someone will try to make it (reads take it) :(.

scam

Yeah! My computer generates a call to me every week telling me its infected with a virus. Amazing how smart it is. If it can call me then it can heal itself!

hahaha..yeah you're right Terry.

Marie, I've not heard that 'Arab' type one before... but of course people tend to react to anything if they are in fear of any repercussions...so many people fall for these calls and mails STILL, despite all the warnings!! I'm pleased you weren't one of them and could laugh at it! :D

Got two calls the other day from, "Canada Revenue" warning me that, if I didn't call the number supplied immediately the RCMP would be at my doorstep to arrest me. So, Sue and I made extra coffee.....To give to the RCMP officers when they show up...……….And waited outside, in our lawn chairs. And waited. And waited. Darn, they didn't arrive. So disappointed. Was going to phone our local chapter of said police department but I had to mow the lawn.

Here is the name that came on my CID. Fake I am sure. Moham Abdelaziz.

I have also had calls ID'ed with "Do not answer" and "Invalid number". LOL

Can't have fun with the robo calls but when a live person begins their appeal that is when the fun begins.

When asked if I'm the home owner I reply the home owner has been shot. I then tell the voice I'm from the narcotics squad and need the name & number of the caller to follow up on potential drug user contacts. Click the line goes dead.

When told my computer is infected and I need to allow access I ask if they are going to charge me. That opens the door for me to ask them if my credit card can be used. Supplying the number of a credit card company that doesn't exist starts a whole new round. The next thing I ask is, if the computer they claim is infected is the one in my car that controls the transmission shift points. A little pi$$ed the voice says no it's my PC that is infected. Which PC since I have several & only use one at a time on alternate days. The caller by then figures out I'm wasting their time and hangs up.

Other times I ask them if they can hold since someone is ringing my door bell. Usually after a minute the call ended message shows up.
