Laundry Fabric Softeners

I'll put a dryer sheet in the dryer because it helps release cat hair from things like towels, sheets, and other coverings. I am trying liquid now. Too expensive and don't like the smell. Don't like dryer sheets with my clothing because they sometimes leave oily residual spots.

No laundry softeners or fabric drying sheets whatsoever.

It's been a good 20-25 years since I last used a dryer sheet, and never did ever use liquid fabric softeners in the washing machine.

Husband used to complain that his skin was always itchy, and at the time I never put two-and-two together, but after coming across several articles related to I realized exactly what was causing all of hubbies itching. The minute I stopped using the dryer sheets his skin cleared up.

Hint/tip: More often than not the result of static-cling is over-drying. To help lessen and/or avoid such, remove clothing and other washables from the electric tumble dryer before they dry completely, and avoid drying polyester and nylon-mix items with cotton items.

Something I just remembered.

Once the days of using dryer sheets was over, I could feel a huge difference in the natural softness and absorbency of towels.

With dryer sheets, things always had a way of feeling greasy.

My wife likes using liquid fabric softener on her clothing and our sheets. We use Downy fragrance free but she hasn't been able to find it lately so we aren't using any right now. We also use unscented fabric softener sheets but that's more to control static than for any softening they may provide. I do the bulk of our laundry so I put the softener in (when we have it) when I have a load that includes her clothing.

I use Tide 4 in 1 laundry pods and skip the fabric softener/dryer sheets. It's easier for me than lugging the various containers to the laundrette or repackaging things into smaller containers.

Some of the Tide pods include Downy fabric softener.

I use fabric softener because I don't have a drier and laundry is too stiff and dry without it. However, I have to be very careful which one I use as my skin reacts badly to them. Even one intended for babies causes a rash.

My daughter gave me a box of 3 pure wool dryer balls. They remove static from the clothes in the dryer. They work .. but I can't stand hearing them bouncing around when I have a small load. I also found that there was still a bit of static depending on the fabric content, though we tend to gravitate toward cotton and cotton blends.
