In this time we are living in today if someone had an idea to remake the film Lawrence Of Arabia made in 1962 do you think there would be screams of "racism" despite it being true history? Just curious.

It depends on the movie's closeness to the historical truth. Even if there were screams of "racism" IMHO they should be ignored.

As the OP is asking about the remake being considered 'Racist', my take would be Yes in today's world.
Agree it is based on a real person, but that won't stop those who would be offended.
Probably the same reaction if someone did a remake of 'Gunga Din'.

On the question of why do a remake of a Classic, I often shake my head and ask WHY?
Are there not any good screen writers left in Hollywood, or has everyone run out of ideas?
How about choosing a new Novel to make a movie about.

Most remakes are a miss in my opinion; can only think of a handful that seem better than the original.

Imagine a Gone With The Wind remake. It would have to be absolutely spectacular to beat the original. Same with Lawrence of Arabia. Try beating Peter O'Toole, who was brilliant, in my opinion.

Of course there are the professionally offended. Let them do whatever they will. I care not.

The original movie forces the audience to judge the true motives of every nation involved in that operation. If someone did a remake that delved deeper into that bit, added a bunch of virtue signaling, and made it more historically accurate, imo they'd wind up with a very controversial blockbuster that everyone would be talking about. Including Jihadists.

I don't think there will ever be a remake. What's the point? Will someone try to remake The Godfather?

My wife and I watched a 2005 remake of Pride and Prejudice. Apparently it has been shot 17 times for TV and the movies. I thought this one, with Keira Knightley, was pretty good, but it's hard to top Laurence Olivier as D'Arcy.

Gone With the Wind is so true to the book, I can see, i.e. it being remade from Mammy's POV, or Prissy's.

That is an interesting idea. Mammy is one of the strongest and most positive characters in the book and the movie. It would be fun to know what she was really thinking.
