We live in such a litigious age that everyone is having to go to extreme lengths to save themselves from a frivolous law suit.

Just got finished watching a show that warned me that alcohol was involved. Turned out to be a couple having a civilized glass of wine over dinner.

Same with smoking. Some poor soul is having a quick nicotine fix in the pouring rain and we are being warned about it. Nobody else in the whole darn show is smoking!

I got a brandnew waffle maker the other day. Warning: Do not use with a frayed electrical cord!

And then, tonight, looking at a magnifying card at Amazon: Do not put directly on top of item being magnified!

I can just see people running to their lawyer, somebody should have warned me that a magnifying glass (card) does not work if I put it directly over my finely printed instructions!

So, okay, in this super sensitive age, maybe it's not all about ridiculous law suits but also about sparing some sensitive soul from being offended, but as an old timer I cry while laughing!
 

When you want to sue, make sure you know what you're getting into and that it's worth it, because it's going to cost you way more than you think it will. Lawyers are one of the quickest ways on the planet to part you from your 💲💸💲 💸 💲💸🤑!!!
 

@Murrmurr Thanks for this info. I did some investigating and found this video about opting out of the class action suit. Basically, the reason is that you give up any claims to future lawsuits concerning the company. But I don't see that happening any time soon. So I think I'll join the class action suit and get my $20. If that! I was part of a class action suit long ago, I don't remember who it was or about. I think I got $1.50 or something.

It’s not very common to sue in Canada, though some people are starting to think that way. Easier said than done.

That's where super sensitive, easily offended comes in! A sign of the times. In Canada as well as in the U.S.

Those types of law suits are being encouraged all the time here. I forget at the moment what they are called! It'll come to me after I get finished posting. The lawyers don't charge up front but take their (substantial) cut if they win!

My perception may have been skewed by the nightly commercials by two ambulance chasing law firms. Every single night, two, three times within one hour, on my evening news cast!

Thanks for the information,caroln! I am also grateful because I couldn't remember what those suits are called. Burning into my brain: CLASS ACTION SUITS!!!! :)

And this is a settlement offer. If no one accepts the offer, it would probably go to court and the actual amount the claim is asking for is probably much greater than the settlement Facebook is offering. No doubt plenty of people will sign up for it, though.
 
I remember driving from Canada to Port Isabel, Texas on the Interstate Highways. The highways are polluted with all sorts of signs. One of the most polluting are the signs that say, "Injured....... Call a lawyer."

I believe the reason why lawyers are so bad and so aggressive in the US is because there are no laws to stop them. They are a blight upon the land.

The laws are written by lawyers, adjudicated by lawyers for the benefit of....primarily- lawyers. There will never be any laws on the books that would in any way impair the ability of those in the legal profession to make as much money as they can.
 
This is what I wrote a couple of hours ago:

"Boy, those robots are good! Guess what I am getting in the advertising banner above our posts? A commercial for a local law firm! :ROFLMAO: "

I stand corrected. Robots are dumb and I am no longer afraid! They picked the word "lawyer" and now I look at an advertisement from a lawyer in my neighbourhood in an anti-lawyer post! They ARE good at tracking your location, though. I have to give that to them! :ROFLMAO:
