Let’s talk about decorating!

Do you enjoy it? Are you done decorating your place? Is it a work in progress? Do you care?

I love decorating! As we’ve renovated our home, I’ve had so much fun taking the blank canvas of each newly renovated and painted room and creating a theme, a style, a look for it.

Even the rooms that are essentially done I continue to tweak. Nothing major, but there might be an item on a shelf that isn’t quite right, or a section of wall that needs one more thing, or (as I recently posted in the corner of your house thread) a vase or bottle that needs the exact right accompaniment!

I love to shop the discount t stores like TJ Maxx or Marshall’s. Often I’ll just browse as a fun recreational activity and occasionally I’ll come across something I wasn’t even looking for but will realize it’s a better fit or look or style than something I already have! Just recently I found a utensil holder for beside the stove that was an even better look than the one I had, which I was perfectly happy with till I saw the new one!

Tell me about the way you decorate, or don’t decorate as the case may be!

I last decorated during Covid in my Sitting room , Im happy with the colour and Paper , and dont see me changing it soon ..The last House I was in I decorated practually every year to freshen it up . I love the Smell of fresh paint, I think it gives the home a Clean smell .
Id like to do some Tiling in the Kitchen ,but having not done it before ,so I may get someone in to do it .

My Bedroom could do with a touch up ,the paint work i keep chipping when i go hovering, and the paper is coming away at the joins.
Well now you have started me off , its out with the paint brush

When we moved here, I quit adding anything because I had to get rid of so much when downsizing. I don’t even change the towels or bedding, unless they need to be replaced. I’ve reached the point where I hate excess stuff.

I would have loved to replace the dining room table and buffet years ago and know that will never happen.

I re-decorated several years ago to a certain extent. Now, it needs to be re-painted, and I wish I could replace upholstered furniture. But, probably won't, except for repainting.

I worked at an interior design company for years. I ADORE design, shape, form, color, space.
Simplicity and order in a space is imperative for me to function. I love woods, antiques and art
mixed with the contemporary.
When I see Ralph Lauren interior designs, I get so excited, I can't speak! Oh, How I would have
loved to have studied under his direction! He took interiors to the limit, esthetically.
My place is small so I have to stay with like colors and forms so it won't look chaotic, but I try
to change it up as much as I can! I stay away from clutter!
Making lovely surroundings is art. Everything is art!
