Let’s talk about ovens and refrigerators.

I used to always keep a sheet of foil at the bottom of my oven. I had to get a new one a few years ago and it says I can't do that anymore. What is that all about? I would not have bought it had I known. It was already delivered and installed so I just live with it.
Do you know why you can't keep a foil sheet at the bottom? Would it affect the cooking of things or something? I can't think of any other reason.

You know I have no idea, it was just in the user guide for the oven. I have never done it because I did not want to void the warranty at first. Now, I don't do it because I don't want to take the risk of damaging it. They are very expensive now. It is a double oven. I don't think I have ever used the lower. If the top one goes out, I will still have one to use so I am very careful with it.

I do wish they would explain these things properly though....I mean, not everyone is going to pay attention to the instructions, like you, and someone may just go ahead with the foil, do something like ruin the food (for example) and then blame the "bad" oven.

The foil can melt especially if it's left in during a cleaning cycle. That could lead to some damage of the oven or worse. I guess the company's lawyers want to limit their liability.

We have a gas oven that came with the house and it is self cleaning. We have all the instruction manuals for the appliances, and since neither of us had experience with self cleaning ovens we did first read the manual. We had a boil over that left a mess so we thought we'd try it...

No fire, but it did burn out the control panel. Contacted a repairman and was given a price to fix it, as opposed to replacing. When he saw it he said that this wasn't the first time it had happened and the self-clean feature had to be added by the marketing dept as the oven generated too much heat with too little insulation to the electrical areas.

Stove still is in use, but never used the self clean feature again.

Idk...I've read that before too. But, my mother did it for 50yrs before me w/no problems.
So, I'm just continuing w/the tradition.

Sure saves a lot of cleaning..:)

Do you clean yours out regularly or once in a while or not at all?

I clean my refrigerator every week before I do the grocery shopping. It never gets dirty because I hate spills and sticky spots and odors, and things in the back of the fridge that I don’t recognize anymore that have turned into science experiments, so I make sure that doesn’t happen.

My oven on the other hand? Yeah. I’ve never cleaned it. 😂 Which honestly amazes and perplexes me because I’m such a clean freak about ever other thing in my house!! 🤷‍♀️

What about you?
I've never spilled anything in oven, so I've never cleaned it. I clean off the stovetop around once per week.
Unless something spills in refrigerator- which is rare- I clean it when I do the major household cleaning.

My fridge sounds like it's about to lift off the runway. It doesn't seem to get dirty, as everything is in sealed containers. I give it a wipe if I see anything.

I never live anywhere long enough to worry about serious oven cleaning. If I see anything I give it a wipe.
The refrigerator in our last house "moaned". Really, it moaned like someone in the throes of a good sexual experience. Visitors would laugh their heads off when it got started in good. It was a good refrigerator, except for that and thankfully it didn't start moaning that often. Can't get rid of a good refrigerator just because it sounds like it's getting more action than I am, y'know.

Our present refrigerator is fairly quiet, except when the icemaker drops the ice into the ice receptacle. Hum-hum-hum-hum-grunt-grunt-grunt-whir-whir-whir-CRASH!!! And when I say CRASH!, I mean CRASH! At first it woke us up every night until we got used to it.

Oh, This is funny!
I just watched (last night) "the Stepford Wives" and "Return of the Stepford Wives" (or whatever it was called)
Ha! All the wives were at a consciousness raising meeting and all they talked about was cleaning products for their stoves and refrigerators!

This is too funny!
